Job SummaryWe seek a scientist with a focus on aquatic ecotoxicology to develop a nationally recognized, externally funded research program, mentor students, deliver instruction, and engage in service at the Division of Coastal Sciences.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Develop a strong, nationally recognized, and externally funded research program.
- Mentor graduate students and undergraduate students.
- Deliver engaging instruction and develop and teach graduate and undergraduate courses related to aquatic ecotoxicology.
- Engage in service activities to COA, SOSE, and USM.
- Foster collaborations across USM’s diverse academic units, including the Division of Marine Science.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A.D and postdoctoral experience in a relevant discipline.
- Strong research background in aquatic ecotoxicology, including experience with molecular, biochemical, and organismal responses to contaminants.
- Demonstrated ability to secure external research funding.
- Effective graduate mentoring and teaching experience.
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills.
- Publication record in peer‑reviewed journals, including multi‑stressor experimental research.
- Record of scholarship, service, and grant development appropriate for rank.
- Experience with state‑of‑the‑art biosafety level 2 aquatic toxicology facilities.

SOSE offers graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) and undergraduate programs in Coastal Sciences and related fields. The faculty and staff leverage the Gulf Coast location and expertise in marine and coastal science, engineering, and policy to address challenges regionally, nationally, and internationally. The position will be located in the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, a marine laboratory featuring comprehensive research programs in coastal and marine biological sciences.
Research program support includes state‑of‑the‑art laboratory facilities, instrumentation, and a fleet of research vessels.
