Summary of Position

Servers at Embers are responsible for delivering an exceptional, polished dining experience through attentive service, product knowledge, and genuine hospitality. This role requires professionalism, confidence, and the ability to anticipate guest needs while executing service with precision. Servers are expected to guide guests seamlessly through their dining experience, ensuring consistency, comfort, and memorable moments that inspire repeat visits.

Work Environment

Embers is an upscale, Steakhouse & Seafood style restaurant located on the third floor of our Ocean City venue. The space offers sweeping views, an open-concept kitchen with dual brick ovens, and a sophisticated atmosphere that blends classic lounge influence with modern fine-dining service. Our culinary program features premium chophouse cuts, fresh seafood, nightly chef-driven specials, and a curated wine and cocktail program.

Operated by the Taustin family for over 80 years, Embers fosters a professional, family-oriented culture rooted in hospitality excellence, pride in execution, and attention to detail.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as a polished ambassador of the Embers brand on the dining room floor
  • Welcome guests warmly and establish immediate rapport
  • Take full ownership of the guest experience from initial greeting through farewell
  • Maintain impeccable mise en place prior to service, including station readiness, tools, and personal presentation
  • Confidently present daily specials, features, and menu updates
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of menu items, ingredients, and preparation techniques
  • Provide thoughtful food and beverage recommendations based on guest preferences
  • Possess foundational wine and cocktail knowledge and involve the sommelier when appropriate for elevated guidance
  • Accurately take and enter food and beverage orders into the POS system with precision and attention to detail
  • Upsell responsibly and professionally to enhance the overall dining experience
  • Deliver food and beverages efficiently while maintaining presentation standards
  • Properly pace and course meals, including holding and firing courses when appropriate
  • Execute refined tableside wine service according to Embers standards
  • Monitor guest satisfaction throughout the meal and proactively address needs
  • Maintain table presentation at all times, including pre-bussing, refilling waters, remarking silverware, and resetting as needed
  • Respond promptly, courteously, and professionally to guest requests or concerns
  • Assist with food running
  • Complete all opening and closing side work thoroughly and efficiently
  • Maintain clean, organized service stations and dining room areas
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with bussers, food runners, bartenders, and management
  • Assist bussers with clearing and resetting tables as needed
  • Prepare and present guest checks accurately and process payments responsibly
  • Thank guests sincerely, invite them to return, and reinforce a lasting positive impression
  • Encourage guest feedback and reviews when appropriate
  • Remain flexible and assist in other areas of the restaurant to support seamless operations
  • If scheduled on-call, remain available for potential shift coverage
  • Maintain a polished appearance and professional demeanor at all times
  • Demonstrate confidence, composure, and discretion on the floor
  • Anticipate guest needs rather than reacting to issues
  • Balance efficiency with attentiveness—never rushing the guest experience
  • Communicate with clarity, intention, and professionalism
  • Take pride in consistency, presentation, and hospitality execution
Qualifications/Skills
  • Strong background in upscale or fine-dining hospitality
  • Excellent verbal communication and guest engagement skills
  • High attention to detail and strong situational awareness
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Team-oriented mindset with a professional work ethic
  • Ability to follow established service standards, procedures, and protocols
Education and/or Experience
  • Must have a basic knowledge of dining room and service procedures and functions
  • Possess basic math skills and money handling skills
  • Prior upscale or fine-dining service experience preferred
  • Solid understanding of dining room service standards and etiquette
  • Basic wine and beverage knowledge
Physical Demands
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)
  • Be able to safely lift and easily maneuver trays of food frequently weighing up to 20 to 25 pounds
Computer/Technology Skills

Possess basic knowledge in operation a point-of-sale system

Language/Communication Skills
  • Must have strong communication skills, positive attitude, and a personable demeanor
  • Must be very organized, pay attention to detail, multitask, and have strong observational skills
