SUMMARY

Performs maintenance and repair work on equipment for the Public Works Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform repairs and maintenance to pumps, chain saws, road saws, multipurpose saws, tamps/jumping jacks, arrow boards and generators that are used by the Public Works Department.
  • Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance to loaders, backhoes, rollers, dump trucks, trash trucks, and other equipment and vehicles that are used in the Public Works Department.
  • Be able to weld, cut, and fabricate materials and equipment in the Public Works Department.
  • Perform annual preventative maintenance to the equipment in the Solid Waste Transfer station and adjoining facility.
  • Assist all Public Works Divisions and other Departments in the City with any repairs or maintenance that may needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE,
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and/or REGISTRATIONS

Required

  • Minimum one (1) year of driving experience with Valid CDL commercial class “A” driver’s license with endorsement for air brakes
  • Must have current DOT physical card and ability to pass all mandated alcohol/drug tests.

Preferred

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 2
    -3-years of machinal experience working on small and large equipment is preferred
  • Welding and fabrication experience preferred
  • Hazardous material, combination vehicles, and tankers experience preferred
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to work a variety of schedules. Must provide employer with a telephone number where employee can be contacted. In the event of hazardous weather, employee will be called to duty during off hours in order to maintain continuous operation of equipment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
