POSITION SUMMARYThis is a hands‑on, field‑based role supporting septic and underground plumbing crews. This position is intended for candidates with prior experience in construction, plumbing, or excavation who can contribute productively on active jobsites. This role works closely with a lead septic or underground technician and is expected to maintain pace with crew production.
The Septic & Underground Apprentice is paid on a flat rate/piece rate scale based on completed projects. Earnings are production‑based and tied to performance and reliability.
Candidates must understand the basics of underground work, including laying and gluing pipe, maintaining proper fall for gravity‑fed sewer systems, and using hand tools efficiently. You are expected to work at pace, follow layout direction, and perform physical labor without constant supervision.
This role offers a clear growth path into running your own underground truck, including septic systems, gas tanks, water and sewer lines, gas lines, and septic pump‑outs, for individuals who demonstrate consistency, skill development, and ownership.

- Septic and underground work is completed correctly, safely, and to code
- Trenches, pipe runs, and backfill are completed accurately and efficiently
- Proper fall and alignment are maintained on all gravity‑fed sewer systems
- You keep pace with the crew and contribute consistently throughout the day

- Tools, materials, and equipment are handled properly and returned in good condition

- Assist with septic system and underground installations, including tank setting, pipe runs, and backfill
- Dig trenches and excavations safely and efficiently
- Lay, glue, and secure underground pipe according to layout and direction
- Maintain proper fall and alignment for gravity‑fed sewer systems
- Stage materials, tools, and equipment for daily job requirements
- Operate or assist with equipment such as cut saws, compactors, pumps, and basic excavation tools
- Support lead technician with measurements, layout, and jobsite preparation
- Maintain jobsite cleanliness, safety standards, and organization
- Communicate clearly with lead technician, supervisors, and office staff
- Represent Chad’s Water Works Plumbing with professionalism on every jobsite
- Prior experience in underground, septic, plumbing, excavation, or construction environments
- Working knowledge of laying and gluing underground pipe
- Understanding of proper fall and alignment for gravity‑fed sewer systems
