E-ONE manufactures custom and commercial fire trucks, including pumpers, tankers, aerial ladders, platforms, rescues of all sizes, quick attack units, industrial trucks, and ARFF (aircraft rescue firefighting vehicles). Perform duties to sand, grind, mount, or repair any unit in preparation for welding, assembly operations, or painting to meet specifications as part of the manufacture of large, custom, special‑purpose vehicles, working within prescribed routines.
Responsibilities- Sand or grind parts or bevel edges in preparation for welding; feather, flute, flat‑and‑level grind, remove server corners, overcome surface stress areas subject to fatigue fractures, or perform similar conditions; remove sharp edges or burns, detect dents, holes, and substrate work from process sheet, shop orders, prints, schedule, pick‑lists, and instructions.
- Review material and production requirements; obtain and accumulate tools and materials and move them to the work area.
- Blow off and wipe down components or units to remove grit, grease, and other foreign surfaces.
- Check cab, body, or component structure for obvious defects such as dents, rough weld beads, fractures, undulations, or wavy surfaces.
- Identify defects, apply fillers, file or sand area to meet surface‑finish requirements; may apply primer over corrected areas of body and expose aluminum.
- Wire brush welds to remove smoke; grind and remove excess weld beads to smooth surface and remove residue; apply compound and buff surface to meet cosmetic criteria and specifications; recognize and call attention to weld defects such as fractures, voids, porosity, and distortion; reshape part surfaces for smoothness, sand, polish, and buff as required.
- Remove doors or other components, place on work stand or fixture, pull required hinges and backup nails, and mount in place.
- Sand specified pieces to a flat surface, varying pressure to obtain a symmetrical pattern across the surface to meet cosmetic requirements.
- Monitor the quality of work performed in the assigned area of responsibility.
- Follow work standards and maintain safety, quality, and production expectations.
- Perform within physical requirements, including at least a 45‑lb single lift; walking, kneeling, squatting, and standing for long periods.
- Perform or assist with any operations required or directed to maintain workflow or respond to production requirements.
- Perform other duties not listed but needed by the supervisor to keep trucks on schedule.
- Hand and powered tools, spraying equipment, forklift, fixtures, sanders, grinders, tape measures, squares, files.
- Safety: Follow E‑ONE General Health & Safety Rules, ensure safe operating conditions, and notify coworkers and supervisors of hazardous acts and conditions. Use PPE and defect‑free equipment; promote safety; use proper lifting techniques and overhead hoists; maintain a clean and safe working environment in line with 5‑S Philosophy; participate in hazardous communication training and safety meetings.
- Quality: Deliver defect‑free work and understand the company’s quality system. Check work for conformance to process control instructions, specifications, and quality standards. Identify non‑conforming product; assist in initiating corrective and preventive actions when appropriate.
