Job Overview
E-ONE manufactures custom and commercial fire trucks, including pumpers, tankers, aerial ladders, platforms, rescue units, quick‑attack units, industrial trucks, and aircraft rescue firefighting vehicles. The company produces over 400 vehicles per year and has grown to an industry leader in a few decades.
Job Summary: Perform duties to sand, grind, mount, or repair any unit preparation for welding, assembly operations or paint, to meet specifications as part of the manufacture of large, custom, special‑purpose vehicles.
Responsibilities- May sand or grind parts or bevel edges in preparation for welding; feather, flute, flat and level grind; remove sharp edges or burns; detect and fill dents, holes, and substrate defects.
- Work from process sheet, shop orders, prints, schedules, pick‑lists, and instructions.
- Blow off and wipe down components to remove grit, grease; inspect for dents, rough welds, beads, fractures, undulations.
- Apply fillers, file or sand to meet surface finish; apply primer over corrected areas.
- Wire brush welds, grind, remove excess beads, smooth surface; apply compound and buff to meet cosmetic criteria; recognize weld defects such as fractures, voids, porosity, distortion.
- Remove doors or other components, mount as required; pull required hinges and backup nuts; place on fixture.
- Sand flat surfaces, adjust sander pressure to achieve symmetrical pattern and meet cosmetic requirements.
- Monitor quality of work performed in assigned area.
- Follow work standards; perform within physical requirements (single lift up to 45 lb, walking, kneeling, squatting, standing).
Other duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Perform or assist with any operations required to maintain workflow or respond to production requirements.
- Perform other duties as needed by Supervisor to keep trucks on schedule.
- Hand and powered tools, spraying equipment, forklift, fixtures, sanders, grinders, tape measures, squares, files.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Effective communication skills, written and oral.
- Good math skills.
- Forklift license (or ability to obtain an E‑ONE issued license).
- Record‑keeping abilities.
- Knowledge of and adherence to E‑ONE safety practices.
- Lift/Push/Pull — up to 40 lb frequently, 20 lb constantly.
- Climbing — ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding.
- Stooping — bending spine at waist.
- Kneeling — bent legs at knee to rest on knee.
- Crouching/Crawling/Reaching — bending legs and spine; moving on hands and knees; extending hands and arms.
- Standing — sustained periods.
- Walking — for long distances or between work sites.
- Visual acuity required for operating machinery, vehicles, and heavy equipment.
- Hazardous conditions — proximity to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, electrical current, high heat, chemicals.
- Daily stretching required.
