The Role You’ll Contribute

Responsible for managing assigned aspects of laboratory processes or shifts, including workflow, quality control, and performance improvement activities. This position ensures the training of new employees and provides advanced problem-solving for customers and coworkers. This role involves maintaining and upgrading department equipment and computer systems. In addition, this position performs analytical testing of blood and human biological specimens, requiring a high degree of theoretical and practical knowledge.

Additionally, this role follows laboratory policies and procedures, maintaining quality control practices. Responsibilities for this role include managing workflow, ensuring quality control, training employees, solving problems, maintaining equipment, and performing analytical testing.

The Value You’ll Bring to the Team
  • Carries out post-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, reporting results (including highly abnormal results) in accordance with established procedures, and providing technical and support information related to laboratory testing for all age groups.
  • Reads, examines, and interprets complex test results, serving as a resource and addressing complex tests/procedures.
  • Manages instrument maintenance and troubleshooting practices.
  • Leads quality control and quality assurance testing.
  • Provides orientation and training to new employees and medical technology students, and documenting orientation and training.
  • Provides guidance to technical and support staff, resolves customer service issues within guidelines, and supports education to clinical staff as appropriate or requested.
  • Follows safety policies including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling, and completes required training for handling hazardous waste.
  • Assists with Standard Operating Procedures and document control.
  • Participates in laboratory and hospital Performance Improvement activities.
  • May include transport of hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area; employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling hazardous waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Leads & participates in laboratory performance improvement activities, promoting team building, employee engagement, patient satisfaction, and safety.
  • Completes all expected tests and analytical procedures efficiently and accurately according to established procedures, performance standards, and departmental competency standards, participating in proficiency testing and adhering to federal, state, and institutional regulations.
  • Manages quality assessment, technical oversight, problem solving, scheduling, interviewing applicants, staff performance input, training, and competency evaluations.
