Rasmussen University seeks an Academic Advisor to provide students with general guidance and direction in an effort to promote student persistence, improve retention outcomes, and support enrollment growth. This role builds strong relationships with students, fostering open communication and advising to ensure successful achievement of University educational goals. The Advisor will also develop collaborative interdepartmental relationships with admissions, faculty, career services, and central services to meet students’ collective needs.

Responsibilities
  • Serves as the student’s primary point of contact to seek resolution to student needs by providing relevant educational advice, directing students to appropriate self‑serve resources, and acting as liaison between the student and the requested service area, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Creates and maintains quarterly student schedules and advises students on course sequence to ensure successful attainment of educational goals.
  • Completes quarterly student academic progress (SAP) audits, including GPA and CCR calculations and projections; actively manages schedule outreach and overall student success.
  • Recognizes the rigors of student life and personal obstacles, instilling confidence through encouragement and support during advising.
  • Utilizes the student information system (SIS) to identify, document, and track student progress and advising activities.
  • Acts as the student’s primary point of contact for financial‑aid questions, including FAFSA/FAConnect, ledger card entries, payment plans, and excess funds.
  • Communicates the impact of the student’s credit load on tuition and the financial aid award.
  • Performs regular proactive student outreach to drive outcomes throughout the life cycle; collaborates interdepartmentally and audits student success data trends to support this effort.
  • Assists with developing strategies that address student retention data.
  • Maintains strict adherence to all institutional, governmental, and accreditation policies, regulations, and codes of conduct.
  • Prioritizes activities and uses time resources efficiently, staying focused amid distractions.
  • Maintains a high level of integrity in all interactions with students and employees, respecting policy expectations and intent.
  • Cultivates a positive team environment both on and off campus.
  • Actively contributes to the learning environment and collegial experience for students and employees, providing constructive input to assist university decision‑making and process improvement.
  • Supports campus and community activities, including campus welcome area coverage, student orientations, career fairs, and graduation ceremonies.
  • Maintains an accurate, fundamental knowledge of all programs, accreditation, learning outcomes, typical career opportunities, and industry outlook.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in advising, counseling, customer service, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; student information system experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team and with other departments, both in‑person and virtually.
  • Strong multi‑tasking, organizational, planning, and coordination skills.
  • Proven customer‑service experience in a professional environment.
  • Self‑motivated, flexible, patient, and solutions‑oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with students, management, and peers.
  • Strong command of the English language, both oral and written.
  • Professional appearance and telephone/virtual manner are essential.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
