Superintendent

JOB GOALS

To provide for the safe, efficient, and courteous transportation of students.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Meet all requirements of the Ohio Pupil Transportation Laws and Regulations, State Laws, and District Board of Education Policy.
  • Be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent and two years driving experience.
  • Hold a current Commercial Driver's License as required by Ohio.
  • Documentation of a clear criminal record.
  • Successfully pass an annual physical exam as required by the State of Ohio.
  • Satisfactory pre-employment and ongoing random drug tests results.
  • Have on file, in the superintendent's office, a copy of the driver’s abstract (semi-annually).
  • Have successfully completed the course on transportation laws and regulations as established by the State of Ohio and the Ohio Department of Education.
  • Ability to assist students with disabilities (e.g., mobility, transferring, positioning, etc.).
  • Ability to cope with stressful traffic, weather conditions, and passenger distractions.
  • Physical ability to perform all aspects of the driver responsibilities.
  • Meets all mandated health requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • It is the responsibility of the bus driver to report for work, allowing enough “prep-time" (a minimum of 15 minutes) prior to departure to assure all requirements and responsibilities have been completed for safe transportation.
  • It is the responsibility of the school bus driver to complete and hand-in a daily pre-trip and post-trip inspection forms after returning to storage. It is the responsibility of the Superintendent to provide each driver with all inspection forms, which include the School Bus Driver’s Daily Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspection forms.
  • Follow all administrative regulations, policies and procedures as established by the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Board of Education.
  • Operate school buses and/or other district vehicles within the limits of the law.
  • Fuel the vehicle as required by operational regulations. No fueling with occupants on bus.
  • Check bus condition and seats following each run/trip.
  • Report all mechanical defects to the Superintendent. Request repairs using the daily inspection form.
  • Observe all safety regulations for school buses.
  • Transport only authorized students to and from board approved bus stops and routes.
  • Maintain a punctual route schedule.
  • Report all accidents and complete all required reports.
  • Maintain discipline when students are on the bus, report disruptive students to the proper school authorities on proper forms.
  • Attend yearly four hour mandatory in-service, all safety workshops and meetings as required.
  • Maintain a clean bus.
  • Drivers will remain on the bus at any time there are students on board (exc. wheel chair).
  • Work with parents, colleagues, and other school employees to problem solve special needs situations as well as the general operation of the transportation system.
  • Demonstrates maturity and the ability to work with students and their families.
  • It is the driver’s responsibility to notify Superintendent of any traffic violation he/she should incur immediately. This includes any violation with a school bus or personal vehicle.
  • Check wheelchair lift operation, if applicable.
  • Plug assigned bus into electric outlet in cold weather, unplug before departing.
  • All Classified employees are encouraged to attend up to four (4) inservice or orientation meetings annually on a voluntary basis.
  • Able to change work assignment from school to school, when so designated by the supervisor.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.
Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designee according to Board approved evaluation instrument.
