Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and supervise a comprehensive athletic or activity program.
  • Previous successful coaching or advising experience in the assigned area preferred (for major sports or equivalent programs).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport or activity, with a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Serves as a positive role model for students through actions, leadership, and instruction.
Employment Requirements

Employment of coaches and activity sponsors is contingent upon:

  • Successful completion of Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCI) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background checks, and enrollment in the State of Ohio Rapback System.
  • Completion of all required training through Coaches’ Tool Chest (when applicable).
  • Obtaining a valid Pupil Activity Permit from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce in accordance with R.C.  (when applicable).
  • Compliance with applicable Board policies, including Policies 3120.08 and 4120.08, and the OOEA Negotiated Agreement, Article 7.07.
  • All supplemental and pupil activity assignments automatically terminate at the conclusion of the contractual activity each year, in accordance with Ohio Revised Code 3319.11.
Application Process

Internal Applicants and Current Coaches: Must submit a Notice of Interest/Bid Form to be considered for available supplemental or co‑curricular assignments.

External Applicants: Must submit the following:

  • A completed Notice of Interest/Bid Form.
  • A completed employment application through Frontline.
  • A résumé and three (3) letters of recommendation, or email addresses for three (3) references so the district may send reference surveys on your behalf.

Provide Three Letters or Emails of Reference – Three letters of reference can be brief notes or emails addressed to the district. Each should state how the individual knows you, how long they have known you, and their recommendation for your hire. References may come from either personal or professional contacts.

Possible submission methods:

  • Attach the letters to your Frontline application.
  • Email them directly to
  • Authorize the district to send a reference survey to the three references listed on your Frontline application (be sure their email addresses are included).

BCI and FBI Background Checks – Please complete both BCI and FBI background checks. If completed within the past year, you may provide copies; otherwise, new electronic fingerprinting is required. Take the attached pre‑coded form to the Oberlin Police Department (85 S. Main St., Oberlin), which ensures results are sent to both ODE and the District. Payment is by check (payable to Oberlin Police Dept) or exact cash only.

Results are typically processed within 7 days and sent directly from Ohio BCI/FBI to ODE.

Coaches’ Tool Chest Certification – Please complete the Coaches’ Tool Chest certification at  The certificate serves as proof that all requirements for the Pupil Activity Permit have been met. You must upload a copy of this certificate as verification of your Mental Health Training certification when completing your online application with the Office of Educator Licensure. Effective October 3, 2023, Ohio law requires all athletic coaches to complete a student mental health training course approved by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS).

This is a single platform—trained once a year to meet all state compliance requirements.
