Job Description & How to Apply Below
About the Role
We're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who thrives in a hands-on, heavy-industrial environment. If you love designing components that take a beating (think wear parts, tooling, material-handling components, or high-impact industrial assemblies) this role will feel like home.
You'll own projects from concept through production, working closely with manufacturing, machining, and quality teams to bring rugged, reliable designs to life.
What You'll Do
- Design mechanical components and assemblies for heavy-duty industrial applications
- Develop 3D models, drawings, and BOMs using Solid Works or similar CAD tools
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are optimized for machining, fabrication, and cost
- Perform tolerance stack-ups, stress considerations, and fit/function analysis
- Support R&D efforts for new product development and continuous improvement
- Revise and improve existing designs based on field performance and customer feedback
- Participate in prototyping, testing, and validation
- Maintain accurate documentation including ECNs, revision control, and technical reports
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of mechanical design experience in manufacturing, tooling, wear parts, or heavy equipment
- Strong CAD proficiency (Solid Works preferred)
- Understanding of materials - steels, alloys, hardfacing, wear-resistant coatings
- Ability to design for manufacturability (machining, welding, casting, fabrication)
- Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on mindset
- Comfort working cross-functionally with production, engineering, and quality
- Competitive salary - typically $80k-$110k depending on experience
- Opportunity to design products that actually get used - not just sit in a CAD folder
- High autonomy in design decisions
- Impactful work in a niche industry where good engineering truly matters
- Stable, long-term career path in a specialized manufacturing environment
