Job Description
The Wine Educator, ICON, delivers high-touch hospitality and conducts informative, engaging, and interactive wine presentations for groups and individuals of all knowledge levels. Focused on the ICON wines (Schrader, Double Diamond, and To Kalon Vineyard Company), the role leverages deep wine knowledge to inspire and educate guests through guided tastings, curated pairing experiences, and educational seminars that highlight the history, philosophy, and winemaking techniques of Robert Mondavi Winery and its ICON portfolio.
The role tailors each guest experience to individual interests and knowledge levels to ensure a memorable encounter. It also emphasizes sales conversion, encouraging wine and merchandise purchases and promoting wine club memberships to support the ICON portfolio’s direct-to-consumer growth.
- Wine Education and Guest
Experience:
Create and deliver engaging, informative, and interactive wine presentations for guests of all knowledge levels in group and private settings. Conduct guided tastings, pairing experiences, and educational seminars that highlight history, philosophy, and winemaking techniques of Robert Mondavi Winery. Foster meaningful connections with visitors, tailor experiences to individual interests, and drive sales conversions for wine and merchandise, including wine club membership conversions. - Host Trade, VIP, and Wine Club Member Engagements:
Serve as the primary host for trade partners, VIPs, and wine club members, delivering exclusive experiences featuring Schrader, Double Diamond, and To Kalon Vineyard Company wines. Support Robert Mondavi Winery trade, VIP, and member engagements and assist in executing special events, private bookings, and member gatherings in collaboration with the hospitality team. - Hospitality and Service Standards:
Deliver exceptional, high-touch hospitality at every guest touchpoint, proactively addressing guest needs and adapting to individual preferences. Support event logistics and provide personalized service for special events and VIP experiences. - Wine Education & Brand Standards:
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the ICON and Robert Mondavi Winery portfolio, winemaking processes, and industry trends. Serve as a brand ambassador and collect guest feedback to share insights with management for ongoing improvements. - Operational and Cross-Functional Teamwork:
Participate in daily setup and breakdown of tasting rooms and hospitality spaces, maintain cleanliness and safety, assist with inventory management for wine, merchandise, and educational materials, and collaborate across departments to optimize guest flow and operational efficiency.
- WSET Level 3 certification required (or equivalent advanced wine education).
- Proven hospitality, event coordination, or guest services experience; wine industry experience strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with a collaborative and proactive approach.
- Demonstrated financial acumen, including budgeting, cost control, and interpretation of KPIs.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends and evenings, to support programming and business needs.
- Attention to detail, passion for delivering outstanding guest experiences, and commitment to upholding brand standards of Robert Mondavi Winery.
- Experience:
Minimum 4 years in hospitality, guest services, or wine education; prior tour guide or wine industry experience preferred. - Communication:
Outstanding verbal presentation skills; ability to convey complex ideas clearly. - Customer Service:
Passion for exceptional guest experiences; adaptable to diverse audiences. - Organization:
Strong time management and multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment. - Tech
Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with reservation systems (Tock, Triple Seat) is a plus. - Teamwork:
Collaborative, positive, proactive approach.
- High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s preferred in hospitality, wine studies, or related field.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evenings as required.
- Valid U.S. Passport; ability to travel up to 10% for training or events.
- Able to lift 40 lbs on occasion.
- Work in a normal office environment; sit at a workstation for up to 2-hour intervals; reasonable accommodations available.
- Travel up to 30%; weekend and evening availability as required by the wine industry.
