This position is for the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital’s Birthing Suite (Labour & Delivery) and Maternal Newborn (postpartum) areas (Level 2B).

The Professional Practice Leader (PPL) is accountable to the Manager, Interprofessional Practice, who provides primary leadership, coordination and support for day-to-day responsibilities. The role also maintains an integrated partnership with both the Director, Women & Children and the Director, Professional Practice & Chief Practice Information Officer, ensuring alignment with program priorities, corporate professional practice standards and organizational quality and safety goals.

Through this shared‑leadership structure, the role contributes to consistent practice excellence across the Women & Children program while advancing system‑level professional practice initiatives.

In addition to this reporting relationship, the PPL will collaborate and work closely with the Halton Healthcare Women & Children Patient Care Managers, Providers and fellow PPLs to ensure high quality, safe patient and family centered care.

The PPL is a key member of Halton Healthcare, responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and evaluation of education and professional development initiatives that enhance clinical competence, support evidence‑informed practice, and foster a culture of continuous learning. The PPL collaborates closely with interprofessional teams, frontline staff, leadership and external partners to strengthen quality patient care and staff development across the organization.

By advancing the reliability of clinical practice, the PPL promotes care that is safe, evidence‑based, and aligned with both regulatory and organizational standards. The role emphasizes clinical skill development and real‑time coaching, ensuring responsiveness and adaptability to evolving care needs.

Through strategic leadership and expert guidance, the PPL advances practice excellence by building staff capacity, supporting safe, evidence‑informed care, and strengthening organizational readiness and agility to meet the highest standards for patients and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Education & Professional Development
    • Plan and deliver orientation, in-service education, and ongoing professional development for clinical staff and learners
    • Develop and evaluate competency‑based education and clinical skill validation aligned with evidence‑informed practice
    • Support regulatory and mandatory education requirements across programs
  • Practice Support & Clinical Coaching
    • Provide real‑time clinical coaching and practice support at the point of care
    • Support staff in applying new knowledge, policies, and practice standards
    • Identify and address program‑level and regulatory education needs
  • Policy Guideline, and Procedure Development
    • Collaborate on the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines
    • Support integration of new or revised practice standards into clinical environments
    • Act as a practice and regulatory resource for staff and leaders
  • Quality Improvement & Knowledge Translation
    • Support quality improvement initiatives aligned with organizational priorities
    • Use data, audits, and performance indicators to identify practice gaps…
