POSITION SUMMARY:

Design detailed electrical schematics for process equipment utilized in the pharmaceutical industry. Prepare control system hardware designs based on system IO list, functional specification, or process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform load calculations and size components such as power supplies, transformers, motor starters, and VFDs.
  • Produce detailed wiring drawings and panel layout drawings.
  • Prepare detailed Bill of Materials for purchasing.
  • Ensure that designs are in accordance with electrical codes and safety standards.
  • Attend project meetings and design reviews.
  • Perform initial power-up activities on PLC hardware, such as establishing communication between networked or local IO and devices.
  • Perform Factory Acceptance Testing activities with clients.
  • Work collaboratively with mechanical, process and manufacturing teams.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Electrical degree/diploma with minimum 5-year related work experience in electrical design.
  • Proficient using AutoCAD electrical to create electrical wiring diagrams and panel layouts.
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical design practices.
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes- CSA C22.1_24
    - Canadian Electrical Code Part 1, CSA C22.2 - Industrial Control Panels and Assemblies, CSA - Safeguarding of Machinery, NFPA 70 National Electrical Code, UL 508A
    - Industrial Control Panels, UL 698A
    - Industrial Controls Panels for Hazardous Locations
  • Experience with selecting electrical industrial components.
  • Must be able to read and interpret Process and Instrumentation Diagrams.
  • Attention to detail with hands on approach to start-up and troubleshooting.
  • Must be well organized and able to meet project schedules and deliver quality products under pressure.
  • Able to liaise with clients, contractors, and local authorities.
  • Must possess strong communication skills and be proficient in English, oral and written.
  • Self-motivated as well as a team player and can work with minimum supervision.
  • Experience with programming control systems for process automation.
  • Experience selecting and installing instrumentation typically used in process systems.
  • Experience working under ISO
    9001 or CSA Z299 quality programs.
  • Experience with process equipment for Biotech, Nuclear, Water, or Industrial markets.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Normal office environment with frequent sitting, standing, and walking around the floor.
  • Required to use safety and personal protective equipment when on the production floor.
  • Some travel required.
  • Some overtime required.
