Our Infrastructure and Capital Projects practice is comprised of over 600 sector experts and specialized consultants across the Globe. We combine strategic and operational expertise with a deep technical knowledge to support developers, sponsors, lenders, and projects leader to select, structure, improve and execute Capital Projects in a more efficient and sustainable way.
The Lead Process Engineer – Acid & Solvent Extraction (SX) is responsible for the technical leadership, design oversight, and execution support of acid leaching, solvent extraction, and related hydrometallurgical process systems on an EPC mining project. This role provides discipline leadership across engineering, vendor engagement, and field execution to ensure process designs are safe, operable, constructible, and aligned with project performance, schedule, and cost objectives.
The Lead Engineer serves as the technical authority for SX and acid systems throughout the project lifecycle.
While this role is tied administratively to our Oakville, ON office, the position itself will be based on‑site at the project location in the southwestern area of the Athabasca Basin, in Northern Saskatchewan on a rotating basis.
How You Will Contribute
Provide technical leadership and engineering oversight for acid leach, solvent extraction, stripping, reagent handling, and associated process systems.
Develop and review process design deliverables including PFDs, P&IDs, mass and energy balances, process descriptions, and operating philosophies.
Lead discipline input to equipment selection, sizing, and specifications for SX mixers‑settlers, tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, piping, and utilities.
Coordinate closely with metallurgical test work, licensors, and technology providers to translate test results into executable designs.
Interface with mechanical, piping, civil, structural, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines to ensure integrated and constructible designs.
Support procurement activities including technical requisitions, bid evaluations, vendor data reviews, and clarification of process requirements.
Provide technical support to construction and commissioning teams, including resolution of RFIs, field changes, and operability issues.
Participate in HAZOPs, risk assessments, design reviews, and constructability reviews related to SX and acid systems.
Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, environmental regulations, and project safety requirements.
Support process commissioning, start‑up, and performance testing, including troubleshooting and optimization as required.
Mentor and guide process engineers and designers within the project team.
Coordinate with project controls and project management to support scope definition, schedule alignment, and change management related to process systems.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Minimum 10 years of experience in process engineering roles supporting mining or minerals processing projects, with significant focus on acid leaching and solvent extraction systems.
Proven experience serving as a Lead or Senior Process Engineer on EPC or EPCM projects.
Strong understanding of hydrometallurgical processes, SX reagent chemistry, materials of construction, and operability considerations.
Experience supporting construction, commissioning, and start‑up activities in a field or project environment.
Ability to interpret metallurgical test work and apply results to full‑scale process design.
