Position Overview

Kiewit is expanding its new design team specializing in Nuclear and is seeking top performing contributors to support and sustain its growth over the coming years. #LI-LW1

As such, we are currently seeking a/an Intermediate/Senior Civil-Structural Designer to support the activities of the group. The candidate will work closely with the team’s Engineers and Designers to provide various services to internal groups for the development of Kiewit Nuclear projects.

We support our Nuclear clients on the new build as well on their operating plants through sustaining capital projects. Our broad capabilities and expertise allows us to operate in the power, utility, renewable energy, industrial and infrastructure markets.

Location

This position will be based out of our Oakville, ON office location.

Responsibilities
  • Work within multi-discipline project teams to deliver a wide range of projects including structural steel and concrete design and detailing.
  • Develop deliverables for concept studies through to detailed design and construction, including:
    • 3D models
    • 2D drawings (site layouts, profiles, sections, and civil/structural details utilizing knowledge of steel/ concrete structures)
    • Material take-offs
    • Design of civil/earthworks (including embankments, general grading, drainage, roads, etc.)
  • Prepare high-quality deliverables, including 3D modeling and graphic renderings, plus drawings using the standards set out by Kiewit.
  • Actively participate in the design and provide input to the design team throughout the design process.
  • Review drawings to ensure compliance with Client drafting standards.
  • Coordinate with a multi-disciplinary project team.
  • Preparing drawings using Autodesk AutoCAD, and Civil 3D software.
  • Experience in preparing technical specifications would be an asset.
  • Help in the preparation of design documentation at various project stages
  • Contribute to the supervision and training of junior staff
  • Contribute to technical proposals with scope definition and specification development while coordinating with other disciplines.
  • Participate in design reviews and customer review meetings, as needed.
  • Apply ‘safety by design’ and ‘human factor principles’ when supporting design activities.
  • Support in the development of the engineering team by building internal tools and processes.
  • Occasional travel to client site for walk downs and recording as built conditions.
Qualifications
  • Civil/Structural Engineering technologist or equivalent preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant design experience relating to nuclear, industrial, or related projects.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Demonstrated proficiency at building 3D structural models.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team or on an individual basis.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong organizational and technical skills.
  • Familiarity with clients’ Engineering Change Control (ECC) process
  • Familiarity with CSA Nuclear codes and standards
  • Experience in Micro Station is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
