Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Civil Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil engineering projects, including highways, bridges, tunnels, and large-scale infrastructure. This role requires a strong understanding of heavy civil construction processes, materials, and cost structures.
District Overview
Eastern Canada District's projects include highways, bridges, mass transit, mine site development & open pit operations, hydroelectric powerhouses, wind-power plants, dams & industrial. They serve the construction and mining industries and operates in Eastern Canada.
Location
The initial assignment for this position will be either at our project downtown Toronto or the Oakville, ON office.
Responsibilities
• Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and constraints.
• Conduct site visits to gather information on project conditions and constraints.
• Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
• Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing.
• Review and evaluate subcontractor bids for accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare and present bid proposals to clients and stakeholders.
• Monitor and update cost estimates as project conditions change.
• Assist in the preparation of project budgets and schedules.
• Participate in post-bid reviews and project handover meetings.
Qualifications
• Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in civil estimating or a related role.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and cost estimation techniques.
• Broad knowledge and ability to understand project scheduling, cost control, specifications, and engineering drawings.
• Proficiency in estimating software and tools, InEight Estimate (Hard Dollar) preferred
• Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willing to travel as the position requires.
