Lead a Transformative Summer Camp Experience at the YMCA of Oakville!

We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Camp Site Director to be the spark that ignites a positive, fun, and educational camp experience for both campers and staff. As a Camp Site Director, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of a specific camp site, ensuring a safe, engaging, and memorable experience. You'll lead your team of staff with purpose, supporting their growth while fostering a culture of teamwork, positivity, and inclusion.

Your leadership will be essential in camp planning, equipment management, and daily operations, as well as ensuring that each camper thrives in a supportive environment.

Locations: Valens Lake Conservation Area

Work Schedule:

  • Part-time, approximately 5-15 hours/week starting April, 2026
  • Seasonal, full-time hours (40 hours/week) from June 2 – September 4, 2026;
    Monday-Friday between 8 AM - 5 PM

Key Responsibilities:

  • Site Management: Oversee the daily operations of the camp site, ensuring that all activities, facilities, and camper needs are met efficiently. Maintain a well-equipped and safe environment.
  • Staff Leadership: Lead and supervise a team of camp counselors and support staff, offering guidance, feedback, and motivation. Conduct regular staff meetings and one-on-one check-ins to promote growth and development.
  • Planning and Scheduling: Assist in planning camp activities, schedules, and special events that engage campers and encourage personal development. Ensure the smooth flow of camp activities throughout the day.
  • Equipment and Supplies Management: Manage the purchasing, inventory, and maintenance of camp equipment and supplies. Ensure that materials are properly used and cared for by both staff and campers.
  • Safety and Welfare: Uphold camp policies and safety protocols, ensuring the health and well-being of all campers and staff. Respond to emergencies and provide support as needed.
  • Training and Development: Lead staff training sessions before the camp season begins and provide on-the-job development throughout the summer. Encourage teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills among staff.
  • Communication: Maintain open and clear communication with camp administration, parents, and staff. Provide updates on camp progress, camper behavior, and any incidents or needs that arise.
  • Support and Mentorship: Serve as a mentor for both staff and campers, offering guidance, conflict resolution, and encouragement. Promote positive behavior and personal growth.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in camp leadership, management, or related roles (e.g., Camp Counselor, Assistant Director).
  • Demonstrated familiarity with canoeing, kayaking, and experience delivering outdoor education programming.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Experience with planning and coordinating activities and schedules.
  • Excellent organizational skills, especially in equipment management and camp logistics.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening police check prior to the start of camp.
  • Ability to foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive camp culture.
  • Enthusiasm for working with children and leading a team.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.

Other Preferred Requirements:

  • Degree or coursework in Recreation, Education, Sports Management, or a related field (an asset but not required).
