Advanced Practice Professional – Dermatology
WVU Medicine invites applications for the Advanced Practice Professional – Dermatology role within the West Virginia University Health System. The position demands coordination and clinical expertise to manage comprehensive dermatology patient care, including diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, care coordination, discharge planning, and educational responsibilities for residents and staff.
Responsibilities- Complete consults and emergent evaluations.
- Order additional tests or consults in collaboration with dermatology faculty or following established protocols.
- Perform and document results of diagnostic tests per clinical guidelines and scope of practice.
- Communicate abnormal findings to clinical and hospital staff.
- Conduct comprehensive clinical evaluations and record findings in the medical record.
- Coordinate patient discharge and disposition, ensuring appropriate follow‑up services.
- Recognize emergency situations and initiate effective emergency care.
- Assist in collecting outcome measures.
- Apply critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning to dermatology-specific patient needs.
- Utilize equipment safely and follow scientific principles and standards of care.
- Educate nursing staff, hospital staff, students, and patients using appropriate teaching strategies.
- Promote a learning environment responsive to patient/family preferences.
- Update personal knowledge base throughout the year.
- Serve as a resource person for staff caring for dermatology patients.
- Deliver educational programs to professional personnel in dermatology.
- Participate in community outreach and literature distribution.
- Document plan of care and interventions clearly in the medical record.
- Collaborate with leaders to achieve patient outcome improvements.
- Lead development and implementation of practice changes that positively impact outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with medical and nursing staff to facilitate problem solving.
- Participate and lead inter‑disciplinary approaches to patient care, program development, and education.
- Serve on committees and task forces.
- Document hours and submit billing reports, as appropriate.
- Analyze dermatology data and recommend changes.
- Participate in clinical trials and research studies with the Principal Investigator.
- Assist faculty, administrators, and directors in collecting outcome measures.
- Perform other duties or projects as assigned.
- Masters‑level degree as Physician Assistant preferred.
- Dermatology experience preferred.
- Eligible new graduates will be considered (subject to state law and licensing).
- Active or eligible for advanced life‑support certification (e.g., ACLS).
- Perform heavy lifting, stooping, reaching, and movement of patients and equipment up to 40+ pounds.
- Collaborate closely with others.
- Work protracted or irregular hours as needed.
- Handle biohazards, infectious diseases, and exposure to deceased patients.
- Operate near water and electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment.
- Proficiency with computers.
- Strong communication skills.
Salary range: $ – $ per year (prorated for less than 100% FTE).
