Position: Community Health Volunteer & Outreach Support

Overview

La Clínica de La Raza is a non‑profit community health center that serves underserved populations across Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano counties. Volunteers play a vital role in supporting clinics, community programs, and outreach activities.

Volunteer Eligibility & Guidelines
  • Volunteers must be un‑compensated; reimbursement is only for reasonable direct expenses.
  • All volunteers must be willing to follow program policies, including background checks and health clearances.
Volunteer Responsibilities
  • Guest Services – Greet attendees, provide directions, and ensure a smooth flow of events.
  • Survey Collection – Collect and log surveys to evaluate programs and services.
  • Children’s Education – Engage young children through interactive storytelling and puppet shows that promote healthy habits (nutrition, vaccination).
  • Event Support – Assist with the setup and breakdown of events, including PowerPoint presentations, prenatal classes, and other activities.
  • Administrative Support – Make copies, prepare health education materials, and assemble registration packets (limited to 5 hours per week).
Commitment to Quality

Volunteers are accountable for delivering high‑quality services. If concerns arise, volunteers should discuss them first with their supervisor, then with the department manager or Human Resources. Prompt and constructive dialogue prevents recurrence of issues.

Health Clearance Requirements (All Participants)
  • Flu shot (current season)
  • Hepatitis B
  • MMR
  • TDAP
  • Varicella
  • COVID‑19 (1st and 2nd dose)
  • Negative TB test (last year) or Chest Radiograph (last two years)
Clearance Requirements for Volunteers (18+ years)
  • Background check;  not be expired.
  • Complete all necessary forms.
  • Provide a valid government‑issued .
  • Mask fit test (upon request).
Clearance Requirements for Minors
  • Signed consent form by parent/guardian (no background check required).
  • Valid school .
  • Mask fit test (upon request).
Dress Code & Personal Appearance
  • Professional and respectful attire; consult your supervisor for specifics.
  • Good personal hygiene (clean hands, fingernails, hair, brushed teeth).
  • No open‑toe shoes in clinical areas.
  • No offensive or revealing clothing (shorts, tank tops, halter tops, see‑through, spandex, high heels, flip‑flop sandals).
  • Clothing in disrepair is not permitted.
Confidentiality
  • Discuss confidential matters only in private settings when necessary.
  • Never share passwords or access codes.
  • Log off when you step away or finish using a computer.
  • Shred paper documents containing PHI in designated bins.
  • Keep confidential information locked away when not in use.
  • Do not take‑home documents that contain personal health information.
  • Exercise caution when sending emails or leaving voicemails.
Equipment & Electronic Media

Volunteers may use La Clínica phones, e‑mail, and copy machines only for La Clínica business purposes. Personal use should be limited to avoid interference with work performance.

Safety & Security
  • Report unsafe conditions to your supervisor immediately.
  • Follow posted safety rules and procedures.
  • Know fire exit locations and emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Use authorized equipment and wear protective gear when required.
  • Report accidents or injuries promptly.
  • Follow ergonomic guidelines for chair and computer.
  • Use proper lifting techniques.
  • Obey parking and speed regulations when driving to/from the clinic.
Reporting Abuse
  • Report suspected child or senior abuse or neglect immediately to your supervisor.
  • All records related to reporting suspected abuse are confidential.
