Job Summary
The BCH Oakland Hospital Supervisor/Clinical Resource Nurse is an administrative leader and clinical resource who continually seeks to improve patient care delivery through problem solving on a broad level. Utilizing the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, the role provides safe, therapeutic care and leads interdisciplinary and nursing teams. The supervisor facilitates critical thinking, collaborates with the healthcare team, and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice.
Responsibilities include providing nursing care to critical care patients, assisting with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources on a 24‑hour basis, assuming responsibility for units during absences of the unit‑based administrative team, and performing other duties as required.
The supervisor provides 24/7 administrative nursing oversight to adult inpatient units, collaborates with the BCH San Francisco Supervisor to manage staffing, resolves risk management and service recovery issues, manages patient flow, and serves as the primary member of the rapid response and code blue teams. Additional duties include break relief in the ICU when applicable, peripheral vascular access on difficult patients, urgent/emergent clinical issue management, and related responsibilities.
Required Qualifications- 5 years of full‑time acute inpatient pediatric RN experience in an academic medical center
- BSN
- Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinicians and manage complex workflow with multiple priorities
- In‑depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards, care delivery systems, external regulations, and internal policies
- Provides input to decision‑makers on human resources matters
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem solving
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates
- Prepares and presents reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals
- Knowledge of business software and specialized applications used in nursing units
- Demonstrated effectiveness in the charge nurse role and/or through mentoring/staff development or committee work
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position
- 2–5 years of inpatient house supervisor experience
- Knowledge of business software and specialized applications used in nursing units
- Strong knowledge of human resources management policies
- Master’s Degree
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Registered Nurse in the State of California
- Current American Heart Association BLS
- Current American Heart Association ACLS
- Current American Heart Association PALS

- Salary Range: $228,594 – $249,537 (Annual Rate)
