Position: COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER (WFC)

Under the general supervision of the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Communications Manager leads in the development and dissemination of external communications (digital and print) activities and analytics. The Communications Manager works closely with Program and Development Teams to create engaging and effective external communications built on a team-developed strategic communications plan.

STORYTELLING & EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

  • Guided by an annual strategic communications calendar, work with leadership, staff, and program network, including Women’s Policy Institute (WPI) alumni and grant-partners, to create compelling content: digital and print material, social media posts; talking points, pitch decks, articles, and speeches.
  • Work with staff and graphic design vendor to develop multimedia content that informs, inspires, and activates target constituencies (program partners, potential partners, funders, and funder prospects).
  • Collaborate with the Program Team in targeted external communications designed to boost program awareness, recruitment, and support.
  • Support strategic direction for leadership team around activities delivered by consultants and vendors (including design firm, earned media/PR firm, writers, and photographers) as well as by interns, partners, and volunteers.
  • Work with staff to develop writing guidelines and templates for external content, including management of editorial calendars and guest-writer engagement.
  • Write and design marketing content that can be repurposed across various media, including materials that grow our donor pipeline and community base.
  • Work with CDO to maintain and monitor the annual communications calendar.
  • Manage day-to-day maintenance of our website, CRM (Mail Chimp) and social media assets. Work to identify, suggest, execute, and maintain efficiencies and integrations in digital communications, including interface with development database (Raisers Edge).
  • Design a plan to grow, monitor, and sustain the Foundation’s engagement and visibility on social media, including exploring the viability of new platforms for our presence.
  • Identify and manage tools such as SEO to grow website traffic and conversions.
  • Develop and report on key performance indicators around reach, engagement, and retention. Maintain a monthly dashboard across platforms.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CDO.

BRAND STEWARDSHIP

  • Serve as primary internal brand steward, maintaining and informing staff, consultants, and volunteers around templates, style sheets, preferred language, and industry best-practices.
  • With leadership and design firm, participate in the development of new collateral materials including a logotype.
  • Manage deliverables from design firm regarding print collateral materials.
  • Assist in onboarding and training staff, board, and volunteers on Foundation brand materials.

SUBJECT MATTER KNOWLEDGE

  • Stay current and knowledgeable on issues related to Foundation’s mission, programs and initiatives in order to drive communications strategy.
  • Stay current and knowledgeable on issues related to marketing and communications in both print and digital formats, in order to keep the Foundation up-to-date and proactive in communications execution.
  • Speak and write confidently about gender equity and justice, women’s economic security, women’s leadership in public policy and philanthropy, and other topics related to our mission.
  • Work with WFC team to train and support staff, board members, and volunteers as Foundation advocates and spokespersons, including at conferences, convenings, meetings, and social events.
  • Execute strategic communications plans in response to initiatives that result from our program work including campaigns, initiatives, and actions.


Qualifications

Skills

  • At least five years of experience working in communications or marketing, ideally within a nonprofit or social impact organization.
  • Powerful, dynamic writer and storyteller; sophisticated and discerning editor.
  • Passion for and knowledge of issues and challenges faced by cisgender and transgender women, gender-variant, gender queer, gender variant, and non-binary individuals; and trans men.
