Position Summary

The Foundations & Corporate Giving Manager is responsible for assisting the Chief Development Officer in planning, coordinating, and implementing the institutional giving program to meet the Foundation’s fundraising goals and expand the Foundation’s base of institutional support from foundations and corporations. The Foundations & Corporate Giving Manager is responsible for working with the program team and other staff to draft proposals and reports, submitting grant proposals and reports, tracking deadlines and ensuring on-time submission, identifying new funding sources and working with finance and program staff to track grant revenue and releases.

While this position does not supervise direct reports, managing a team responsible for a shared goal and ensuring completion of assignments by other team members is a critical aspect of the job.


Institutional Donor Program Management

  • Manage a robust institutional giving program that includes relationships with over 30 existing foundation and corporate partners and a portfolio of two dozen active prospects, securing income of $3M-$4M annually.
  • Project management, from facilitating big-picture strategic conversations about positioning and prospects to completion and on-time submission of full proposal and report packages (narratives, budgets and attachments).
  • Oversee all grant materials including writing, editing and setting the tone for and maintaining the Foundation’s standards of excellence in writing, copyediting and presentation.
  • Assign writing or editing tasks to others and ensure on-time completion of assignments by team members; manage consultant grant writers when needed.
  • Careful and accurate tracking of institutional funds being sought and received, including multi-year grants, and providing timely and accurate reporting of progress toward goals.
  • Serve as a contact with foundation/corporate program officers; participate in meetings and site visits as needed.
  • Partner closely with the Foundation’s program team to craft proposals and reports and progress and completion of grant commitments to ensure fulfillment of grant objectives.
  • Liaison with the Foundation’s finance team to track grant revenue, cash and release of temporarily restricted grant funds.
  • Identify, research, and qualify prospective institutional funders.
  • Other duties as assigned by Chief Development Officer or their designee.


Institutional Donor Cultivation and Communications

  • Design engagement opportunities for institutional donors including Funder Briefings and other events.
  • Produce materials and tools to communicate regularly with institutional supporters and potential institutional supporters.
  • Meet with existing and potential institutional funders and make solicitations.
  • Ensure timely follow-up on all grants and sponsorship gifts to provide thanks and documentation to funders.
  • Represent the Foundation and present the work of the Foundation at institutional funder convenings and conferences including Philanthropy California and other funder affinity groups.


Qualifications

Skills

  • A minimum of five (5) years resource development experience, specifically grant writing and research.
  • Strong understanding of best practices related to cultural competence of gender, racial and economic justice issues.
  • Ability to produce excellent quality materials needing minimal editing.
  • Proven project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet multiple, simultaneous deadlines and motivate others to do so, using diplomacy, motivation tactics, clear communication and effective systems and processes to ensure that all team members follow through on assignments and tasks on time.
  • Outstanding listening, oral and written communication and meeting facilitation skills with a demonstrated ability to relate to and communicate with diverse communities.
  • Ability to articulate current trends, strategies and solutions that will contribute to equity and justice for all Californians in powerful, interesting and compelling ways.
