The Lincoln Families EXCEL program (Excellence through Counseling, Education, and Learning) program stabilizes youth with emotional and behavioral challenges to better access curriculum in the school setting, and prepare to transition to an inclusive educational environment. Our staff team provides supports for students, families, and schools to develop behavioral and academic tools and create learning spaces for success through:

OUR WHY: Nationwide, the dropout rate for students with learning disabilities is nearly three times the rate for all students. Only one other category of students —- those with emotional and behavioral challenges —- experience a higher dropout rate. The students we serve are grappling with both. The toxic stress associated with traumatic, and often cumulative, early adverse childhood experiences can disrupt the healthy brain development of impacted children and youth.

This can lead to behavioral, emotional, and school problems during childhood and adolescence, and even more serious issues in adulthood.

Position Summary

Reporting to a Clinical Supervisor, an EXCEL Mobile Clinician is responsible for providing direct clinical services to youth and their families in multiple schools across Hayward Unified School District; offering mental health perspective to school community; completing all clinical documentation to support treatment; and providing clinical consultation to the treatment team.

Essential Functions
  • Be primary mental health professional for a caseload of 15-20 youth who have been found eligible to receive Educationally Related Mental Health Services (ERMHS) as prescribed on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). This includes conducting intakes, assessment of psychotherapeutic and case management needs of youth and families, providing clinically relevant services including individual and group therapy, and collaborative discharge planning.
  • Work collaboratively within a range of school communities to provide services in support of the caseload and on occasion to the school community as a whole, such as consultation and/or trainings to school staff or crisis intervention to youth in need.
  • Ensure culturally responsive and relevant treatment planning and services.
  • Participate in extended school year services or summer therapeutic program.
  • Collaborate with other involved agencies.
  • Meet agency expectations regarding levels of direct service.
  • Meet agency, county, state, and school district standards and deadlines for documentation. The maintenance of ongoing service documentation generally occurs after school hours due to the prioritization of providing services to youth within the school day.
  • Provide supervision and/or consultation to assigned practicum students and volunteers.
  • Participate in team meetings, treatment reviews, IEPs and other case conferences as needed.
  • Participate in weekly supervision, individual and group, as assigned.
  • Requires driving between school sites throughout the week to meet with youth, conduct meetings at homes, schools or other sites and occasionally accompanying youth on therapeutic community outings. During our summer programming, driving requirements include transporting youth between various locations. (Clinician must have a valid CA driver’s license, personal automobile insurance and satisfactory driving record.)
