MRI Radiology Service Supervisor – UCSF Health
Job Summary
This position provides oversight at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland and the Walnut Creek clinics, supervising MRI operations and safety oversight. The Radiology Service Supervisor will supervise all technologists and ancillary support staff, train new employees, organize workflow, coordinate daily schedules and shift coverage, ensure mastery of all modality procedures, and enhance image quality. The supervisor is responsible for department productivity and staff performance, requiring strong leadership and communication skills.
Leadership& Supervision
- Supervise licensed technologists and technical support staff in daily assignments.
- Monitor schedules and maintain adequate staffing, covering sick and tardiness.
- Assist with procedures and patient care as a working supervisor.
- Train staff to foster a positive work environment and develop job skills.
- Evaluate job performance continuously and communicate issues to staff and the department manager.
- Complete written performance appraisals by the due date.
- Organize workflow by urgency and coordinate special patient examinations.
- Facilitate patient transport and ensure equitable workload distribution.
- Assign lunch and break relief, maintaining minimal patient wait times and providing service recovery when needed.
- Coach technologists on proper procedural performance and equipment use.
- Answer telephone inquiries, coordinate department services, and participate in hiring interviews.
- Implement disciplinary actions in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate competence in all radiology equipment and troubleshoot problems.
- Adjust protocols as necessary to achieve high‑quality results.
- Enforce UCSF and departmental policies, ensuring compliance with patient safety, electrical, mechanical, fire, and disaster protocols.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, coworkers, physicians, and other departments.
- Maintain a clean work environment in compliance with infection control and environmental health standards.
- Adhere to regulatory agencies, The Joint Commission, Title 17, ASRT, and MQSA.
- Maintain professional badges and radiation badges at all times.
- Enforce attendance and tardiness guidelines.
- Demonstrate competency in the Radiology Information System.
- Ensure clinical data accuracy for specific procedures.
- Use departmental computers strictly for hospital business.
- Maintain confidentiality with personal passwords.
- Confirm RIS exams are completed correctly and coded accurately.
- Maintain current licensure and complete required continuing education.
- Attend staff development activities and cross‑training as needed.
- Assume responsibility for professional growth and practice.
- Ensure accurate performance and documentation of quality control tests.
- Timely incident documentation and reporting for patient, employee, and physician incidents.
- Encourage staff participation in department improvement activities.
- Maintain adequate supply levels and order supplies when necessary.
- Adhere to budget and staffing standards.
- Identify cost‑containment opportunities.
- Suggest productivity or quality improvement initiatives.
- Verify accurate patient billing information and coding.
- Perform other duties within the general scope of the role, training, and licensure.
Salary Range: $214,100 – $261,100 (Annual Rate)

Required Qualifications- ARRT registration
- CRT (if applicable to modality)
- Modality specific certification (CT, MRI, RDMS, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine)
- BLS certification
- Demonstrated subject‑matter knowledge of a radiology modality
- In‑depth knowledge of radiology equipment
