Transit Village Family Medicine Full-time Medical Assistant I/II

La Clínica de La Raza is a nonprofit community health center established in 1971 to serve underserved populations. We have expanded to 35 sites across Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano counties. We are seeking a full‑time Medical Assistant to play a vital role in delivering patient‑centered care at our clinic.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be a friendly, efficient, and observant team member who can handle a fast‑paced clinic environment while providing a human touch to patient interactions. The Medical Assistant will perform essential clinical tasks, support providers, and ensure accurate and thorough documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare treatment rooms and set up laboratory equipment.
  • Verify the purpose of the visit, record medical history, and take vital signs in the EHR.
  • Administer health questionnaires and prepare patients for examination.
  • Perform routine medical procedures including vision tests, urine dipstick tests, pregnancy tests, basic hearing tests, blood glucose testing, and specimen collection.
  • Collect finger‑stick blood specimens and assist in specimen collection for laboratory testing.
  • Conduct specialized procedures under clinician direction such as nebulizer treatments, spirometry, suture removal, and wound care.
  • Coordinate patient flow to maximize access and service.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
  • Explain and translate treatment procedures, medications, and provider instructions to patients.
  • Schedule follow‑up appointments and recall appointments after the visit.
  • Help providers examine and treat patients and prepare and administer medications and injections as directed.
  • Provide prescription information to pharmacies and actively participate in panel management and population health practices.
  • Administer immunizations and document in EHR and other electronic tracking systems.
  • Maintain complete, thorough, and accurate logs, forms, records, and charts.
  • Provide patient education and follow‑up care instructions as instructed by the provider.

General Office Duties
  • Schedule appointments, answer telephones, record medical updates, and complete insurance forms.
  • Screen and monitor EHR requests, complete or route assignments.
  • Greet and log in patients arriving in the appropriate electronic system.
  • Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule tests or appointments.
  • Inventory stock, order, and verify receipt of medical supplies or equipment.
  • Maintain equipment operation by troubleshooting, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
  • Enter key medical record information or perform other required record‑keeping duties.
Minimum

Job Requirements – Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic medical assisting practices and equipment knowledge.
  • Modern medical terminology, chronic health conditions, and health education for the service area.
  • Proficiency with modern computer applications and electronic health records.
  • Administration of skin tests and medication by injection.
  • Able to safely lift and move patients, equipment, and supplies.
  • Knowledge of cleaning and sterilization techniques for medical equipment and examination rooms.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or other specified language.
  • Flexibility and ability to accept changes gracefully.
  • Professional teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for patient education and coaching.
  • Ability to work across cultures and support diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Clear and efficient written and verbal communication skills
