Investment Analyst, Public Investments (36 month term)
The California Endowment invites applications for the Investment Analyst, Public Investments role, a 36‑month term appointment serving our teams in Los Angeles, Oakland and San Diego.
The Investment Team is responsible for investing and managing the Endowments portfolio to align with the Foundation’s mission while earning a market‑rate return. We seek a highly motivated, collaborative analyst to support a broad range of asset classes and to contribute to our mission‑aligned investment strategy.

Reporting to the Investment Manager, Public Investments, the Analyst will provide analytical support for the sourcing of new investments, due diligence on existing and potential holdings, and ownership of projects assigned by management.
Position Accountabilities- Provide analytical support for prospective and current investments, including manager meetings, due diligence, and investment memo preparation.
- Assist with monitoring of existing managers by participating in meetings, gathering data, and preparing analytical reviews.
- Conduct asset‑class and portfolio‑level qualitative and quantitative analysis, gathering exposure information.
- Prepare research reports and conduct ad‑hoc research as required.
- Support operational aspects, serving as a liaison among investors, Endowment Investment Operations and Endowment Finance.
- Build relationships with institutional peers and managers to stay informed of market trends.
- Develop investment skills and contribute to knowledge sharing within the Team.
- Participate in TCE initiatives, including training aligned with Trust‑Based Philanthropy and support for TCE’s mission of Advancing Racial Equity.
Qualifications & Skills
- Passion for investing and a curiosity to understand financial markets.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and communication skills.
- Financial modeling skills and general knowledge of portfolio theory and capital markets.
- Self‑starter with initiative and ability to collaborate with colleagues.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Commitment to the Endowment’s mission and high level of professionalism.
- Undergraduate degree with 0‑3 years of experience at an endowment, foundation, family office, investment firm, or investment consultant.
- Progress toward CFA and/or CAIA is a plus.
- Accuracy: identifies and corrects mistakes; strong attention to detail.
- Problem Solving: strong analytical skills with sound judgment.
- Adaptability: self‑starter who embraces and manages change.
- Relationship Management: establishes strong rapport across all levels.
- Process Management: focuses on improving processes and efficiency.

- Communication: clear, thoughtful, verbal and written skills; professional demeanor.
Target/Full Hiring Range: $93,500 – $110,000 base + incentive eligible.
