Senior Water Electrical Engineer (Northern & Southern California)
Jacobs invites experienced electrical engineers to join our Water & Wastewater team in California. In this role you will design and oversee electrical power systems, ensuring quality, compliance, and project delivery across our water and wastewater operations.
Base Pay Range$132,900 – $251,150 per year
Responsibilities- Design electrical systems for water and wastewater conveyance and treatment facilities
- Prepare contract documents, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for projects
- Develop low‑ and medium‑voltage power distribution, lighting, emergency power systems, UPS, and batteries
- Apply electrical engineering principles, codes, and industry best practices
- Engage in multiple assignments simultaneously
- Create basis of design reports, one‑line diagrams, motor control diagrams, panel schedules, conduit routing, load calculations, and voltage drop calculations; coordinate with utility companies for new services
- Utilize lighting software for calculations and photometrics
- Perform power‑system studies: load flow, short‑circuit, coordination, arc flash, equipment sizing, grounding, and relay coordination
- Ensure quality control and assurance of engineering plans, specifications, and estimates
- Conduct field visits and site investigations for public and private clients
- Provide construction support: submittal reviews, responses to RFI, change‑order evaluation, and record drawings
- Assist with pursuits and proposals
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across multiple locations
- Mentor junior staff
- Demonstrate strong problem‑solving, self‑motivation, and teamwork skills
- Perform any other job‑related duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Registered California Professional Electrical Engineer (PE), able to reciprocate as needed
- Minimum 15 years of experience in the water industry’s electrical engineering role
- Proficiency in Word and Excel
- Proficiency in AGi
32 or Visual Lighting Software - Proficiency in SKM or ETAP
- Experience with permitting review agencies
- Strong time‑management skills
- Strong understanding of NEC and NFPA 820
- Familiarity with IEEE color book series
- Strong analytical, conceptual, problem‑solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to interface effectively with all levels of personnel and management
- Team‑environment perseverance and self‑motivation with minimal supervision
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Experience designing and delivering municipal water and wastewater projects (design‑bid‑build, design‑build, or alternative delivery methods)
- Knowledge of Bluebeam Revu, AutoCAD and/or Micro Station, and Revit MEP
- Knowledge of Title 24 compliance for electrical distribution and lighting
- Field investigation and startup experience
