Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer or Physicist with a background in energy systems for a Manager level role within our Electrical Engineering & Computer Science Practice in Oakland, CA or Menlo Park, CA. In this role, you will work as part of a team to combine electrical engineering principles and a range of investigative analysis techniques with robust subject‑specific scientific expertise, to implement high‑value solutions to complex technical problems.

You will have the opportunity to apply your technical expertise across a wide cross‑section of industry and will interact with a variety of client contacts ranging from managers, engineers, legal staff, and business leaders. You will be expected to demonstrate continued professional growth, both in technical areas relevant to your expertise, and in business skills essential to providing effective consulting services.

Responsibilities
  • Perform electrical engineering analyses consulting related to ongoing Exponent work
  • Prepare technical proposals, pursue business development opportunities, and perform technical analysis related to medium and high voltage energy systems, as well as interact with managers, engineers, and non‑technical staff
  • Risk analysis, design analysis, experimental testing for performance, reliability, and risk prediction
  • Failure analysis of electrical equipment and products
  • Critically assess test results, methods of analysis and testing protocols, generate new testing protocols based on new product designs, maintain a systematic approach to data collection and storage, and report writing
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a closely related field
  • 3-5 years of relevant industry experience after completing a Ph.D.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to work independently or in multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to gather information and convey technical conclusions to individuals in engineering, business, and related industries
  • Ability to support multiple group projects and market the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Practice and its consulting services
  • Technical background in circuits, electronics or control systems
  • Hands‑on experience or a technical background in energy and power systems is a plus
