Job Title
Child Care Assistant II - Merritt
LocationOakland, CA
Job SummaryUnder immediate supervision, performs a variety of early childhood education-related duties. This full-time position is 40 hours/week, 12 months/year, with possible evenings and Saturdays during peak periods.
Responsibilities- Participate with Child Care Specialist in planning and implementing educational program for children ages 2 months to 5 years.
- Develop curriculum plans and identify instructional materials that focus on individual instructional activities.
- Provide age-appropriate language arts, social studies, cognitive arts, computers, science, art, music and physical development educational experiences.
- Attend in-service education meetings and conferences for Center staff.
- Implement educational program during hours when Child Care Specialist is not on duty.
- Participate in evaluation and planning sessions with supervisory and/or Center staff.
- Ensure safety precautions are adhered to and supervise children in classroom and playground.
- Complete State and Center paperwork as assigned.
- Follow and implement all State, District and Center policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Possession of a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or a regular Children’s Center Instructional Permit.
- Or completion of at least twelve semester units of early childhood education/child development coursework, plus 50 days of instructional experience in a child care program within the last two years.
- Knowledge of early childhood education related to child development and infant/toddler or nursery school programs.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and relate to parents, students and staff of various ethnic backgrounds.
- Valid certification in Pediatric CPR, First Aid and health & safety practices.
- Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds.
- Knowledge of early childhood education related to child development and infant/toddler and pre-school age programs.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and relate to parents, students and staff of various ethnic backgrounds.
- Occasional work performed alone and constant work around and with people.
- Occasional lifting and carrying up to 65 lbs.
- Occasional twisting of body.
- Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and climbing stairs.
- Frequent use of manual dexterity, visual acuity, auditory acuity, and clear oral communication.
