Job Description
Summary:
The Certified Nursing Assistant Instructor/Coordinator teaches students the basic patient care services focused on the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients through a combination of classroom lecture and hands‑on clinical experience in a long‑term care facility. Responsibilities include maintaining a safe, comprehensive program, training students to effectively care for patients, preparing classroom and laboratory spaces, evaluating and reporting student progress, assigning clinical placement, and ensuring smooth operation of the teaching environment.
- Develop and deliver lecture demonstrations, laboratory, and classroom instruction.
- Coordinate clinical placement and assign students to long‑term care facilities.
- Evaluate and report student progress and laboratory performance.
- Maintain classroom space readiness and ensure a safe, comprehensive program.
- Associate’s degree in Nursing and six years of related experience.
- OR Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and two years of related experience.
- AND one year experience as a licensed nurse in a long‑term care facility.
- AND one year experience planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing educational programs.
- AND successful applicant must meet California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Aide and Technical Certification Program and Training Program Review Unit (TPRU) approval guidelines.
- AND an active California Registered Nursing License.
- AND a Director of Staff Development (DSD) / Instructor Certificate or equivalent prior to start.
- AND one year nursing experience as a registered nurse within the last five years in an acute‑care hospital, skilled nursing facility, intermediate care facility, home care, hospice care, or other long‑term care setting.
- AND demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college staff, faculty, and students.
- Registered Nurse license in the State of California.
- Previous teaching experience in a nursing assistant program.
- Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written.
- Commitment to the philosophy and mission of the College of Alameda.
Temporary, part‑time faculty may subscribe to the District’s medical and dental insurance group program and qualify for sick leave under certain conditions.
