Overview

KIPP - Instructional Aide - Elementary - Oakland (25-26)

Position details: 40 hours/week, full-time, non-exempt, paid over a 12-month period including scheduled school breaks. Salary range: $20.00/hr - $24.00/hr.

Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the School Leader or other certificated employee, assist by performing a variety of instructional support duties to individual or small groups of students within the special education setting or regular classroom (in-person and virtual).
  • Complement the instructional program to maximize learning opportunities for inclusion students.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a safe, orderly classroom and school-wide behavior; perform routine clerical tasks as assigned.
  • Prepare and set up instructional materials and equipment; maintain instructional materials and equipment.
  • Assist in creating curriculum modifications and provide testing accommodations, including supervising tests in a separate location or with extended time.
  • Review and correct student work; support behavior intervention plans and positive reinforcement strategies.
  • Facilitate positive social interactions and relationships between students with disabilities and their non-disabled peers; model appropriate behavior and provide emotional support.
  • Support students on field trips, assemblies or productions; assist with community-based life skills activities as directed.
  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines per CDC, CDE and public health recommendations.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
QualificationsPreferred Experience
  • Paid or volunteer experience with students or children in an academic or behavioral support setting.
Education
  • Title I paraprofessionals must have:
    High school diploma or equivalent, and one of the following: A.A. degree or B.A. degree (or minimum 48 units in process) or pass the ETS Para Pro Assessment (passing score 460).
Knowledge and Skills
  • Commitment to KIPP mission and anti-racist education.
  • Belief that all students can achieve at high levels; strong content knowledge.
  • Ability to build relationships with students, families, and communities; strong communication skills.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace; ability to use instructional technology for in-class and distance learning (e.g., Zoom, Nearpod).
  • Bilingual in languages reflecting student populations (preferred).
Essential Functions And Responsibilities (continued)
  • Provide tutoring and reinforce learning activities in core academic areas in small groups or 1:1, for in-class and distance learning.
  • Help create and maintain a conducive learning environment; prepare materials and equipment for activities.
  • Assist in curriculum modifications and accommodations; support testing accommodations.
  • Support social and behavioral development; assist with behavior plans and positive reinforcement strategies.
  • Support students with field trips, assemblies, and community life skills activities; promote active participation.
  • Follow health and safety guidelines; perform other duties as required.
Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands

Physical:
Able to navigate school settings, access technology, and lift 1-20 lbs as needed; able to move and position oneself for duties.

Mental:
Manage deadlines, problems, interruptions, and concentration; perform routine math and literacy tasks as required.

Environmental:
School environment with typical interruptions and distractions; adhere to health and safety guidelines.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation package includes competitive salary and comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision, transportation). This role is paid over a 12-month period with 60 days of school-break pay; annualized pay is described as significantly higher than district peers.
