- Teach multiple sections of middle or high school history, an elective and a grade‑level advisory (Crew) each day.
- Lead a daily advisory, 2‑day supervisory yard duty per week, or guided study hall/ELD course as needed.
- Implement culturally responsive pedagogy with high expectations and an assets‑based approach.
- Plan, internalize and implement effective, standards‑based curriculum, units and lessons that maintain rigor.
- Differentiate curriculum while maintaining rigor for all subgroups.
- Use and analyze formative and summative assessments (Schoology, MAP, etc.).
- Complete additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
- Build a supportive, learning‑centered classroom culture that includes all students, especially African‑American boys, students with trauma and students with IEPs.
- Create positive relationships with students, families and peers to foster a community of risk‑taking, collaborative learners.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and growth.
- Demonstrate advocacy, flexibility, collegiality and self‑awareness.
- Administer policies and procedures timely and professionally.
- B.A. or B.S., required.
- California Teaching Credential required or commitment to obtain one.
- Valid Certificate of Clearance for CA teachers, required.
- Knowledge of California Common Core, mastery learning, curriculum planning and data analysis, preferred.
- 2+ years teaching urban youth with transformational results, preferred.
- Familiarity with educational platforms, preferred.
- Experience teaching in a progressive school model, preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish, preferred.
- Work in loud environments such as cafeterias, playgrounds, classrooms and large professional settings.
- Adapt to indoor/outdoor, all weather conditions related to field trips and events.
- Work in air‑conditioned, heated environments with fluorescent lighting.
See, hear, speak, sit, stand and move for extended periods; lift up to 25 lbs; occasional travel to sites for PD.
SupervisionThis position reports to the School Principal or designee.
Time Commitment1.0 FTE (full‑time exempt) within a 10‑month (190‑day) work year. New staff start late July/early August 2026 per the 26–27 school year calendar.
Common Building Hours- 8:00‑16:00 weekdays (8:00‑13:00 on Wednesdays for PD).
- Occasional evening events such as "Ice Cream Social," "Back to School Night," and other calendar events.
