Job Description

Interior Architect Responsibilities (shared with the Senior Architectural Designer):

  • Work directly with the Senior Architectural Designer to develop high-quality designs, drawings, and documentation across all project phases—from concept through construction.
  • Design, problem-solve, and assess feasibility for construction-related elements, including custom furniture; interpret and adapt external construction drawings to LMID standards; maintain and organize all project files.
  • Produce design illustrations, sketches, presentation graphics, and digital models for client meetings and design reviews.
  • Communicate design concepts through pin-ups, slide decks, and sketch sessions.
  • Analyze and recommend floor plans, spatial layouts, and elevations to convey design intent.
  • Develop and revise drawings, details, and material selections based on direction from the Principal and Senior Design team.
  • Oversee execution of design and construction work, ensuring adherence to client goals (budget, timeline) and alignment with the Senior Designer’s vision.
  • Maintain and update finish schedules, fixture schedules, and construction/design drawing sets.
  • Manage project libraries, including material samples, presentation boards, and product specifications.

Project Leader Responsibilities:

  • Define, oversee, and manage project scope, cost, and schedule from concept through installation, in collaboration with the Senior Designer and Principal.
  • Lead and manage project timelines, providing clear direction for the team.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external partners, including vendors and suppliers.
  • Maintain and update project drawings throughout the project lifecycle in coordination with the LMID team.
  • Prepare and update required documentation for weekly site meetings; provide accurate information to architects, builders, owner’s reps, and other key stakeholders.
  • Create design presentations under the guidance of the Principal and Senior Designer.
  • Manage project quality control, addressing issues alongside the design team.

Job Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience at a high-end residential interior design or architecture firm, with strong construction-related experience.
  • Experience preparing drawing sets, specifications, technical documentation, and demonstrating code knowledge.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of custom fabrication.
  • Understanding of construction standards, permit sets, and industry protocols.
  • Strong field observation and note-taking skills.
  • Ability to communicate design intent using Sketch Up or similar tools.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite—especially Acrobat and Photoshop.
  • Comfort working on Mac; experience with Google Workspace, Quick Books, Vectorworks, and Asana is a plus.
  • Knowledge of interior and residential materials, vendors, and terminology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adjust communication style to different audiences.
  • Strong spatial planning and feasibility assessment skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to think strategically and holistically.
  • Confident decision-maker with discretion and professionalism.
  • Able to shift easily between projects and adapt to evolving information.
  • Self-driven and eager to stay informed on design trends and products.
  • Access to a car and a valid driver’s license.
