Design Draw Build (DDB) Inc is seeking a resourceful, and ambitious architect to join our team. Our team of architects, builders, forward thinkers and fabricators thrive on the process of collaboration on design, craft, art, design‑continuity through the entire process of concept development through building completion. DDB is a growing Oakland based architect‑led design‑build firm that traverses multiple typologies from high‑end single family to multi‑family, commercial, adaptive reuse, education and affordable housing.

We push design boundaries with forward inventive thinking, sustainability and future‑proofing while meeting client needs and planning/zoning constraints.

THE ROLE

The Project Architect (PA) is a core member of the studio and design team. The PA will listen and contribute to a creative design dialogue, experiment with new ideas and materials, lead studio sessions, support project and budget management, delegate tasks, and communicate with clients. Successful candidates will work independently, provide guidance to junior staff, and take responsibility for project delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Management of complete architectural projects, including document control, client interaction, and construction administration.
  • Ensure project deliverables are submitted on time and the timeline is met.
  • Oversee teams of in‑house staff, consultants, and vendors to complete projects.
  • Design and draft architectural documents for every project phase, from feasibility and schematic design through construction administration.
  • Conduct feasibility research and code reviews for architectural and construction projects.
  • Facilitate permits and municipal approvals with multiple jurisdictions.
  • Proactively identify and resolve design details.
  • Coordinate with consultants (Structural, T24, MEP, Surveyor, Civil, Geotech) throughout the project.
  • Coordinate drawings and specifications, plan‑check comments with consultants.
  • Develop project presentation materials, including renderings and diagrams.
  • Coordinate with construction managers and site staff to facilitate construction processes.
  • Support the Principal in supervising design staff.
  • Lead the design team of 8–10 designers, junior architects, and job captains.
  • Maintain in‑house standards and quality control processes to improve project documentation.
  • Manage administrative and technical aspects to ensure efficient and cost‑effective project execution through all phases.
  • Focus on the development of construction details.
Experience and Qualifications
  • 4–8 years of experience in an architecture firm, with 3 years as a Project Manager preferred.
  • B Arch or M Arch from an accredited program.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Active listening skills, ability to manage and implement feedback, and present ideas and concepts effectively.
  • Technical skills with an eye for detail for design.
  • Home‑building, construction or design‑build related experience preferred.
  • Driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • Excellent administrative skills, organized, detail‑oriented, file management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Able to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members and be a team player.
  • Fun, positive attitude, and pleasant to work with.
  • Self‑motivated, with strong work ethic and desire for growth.
  • Licensure not required—progress to licensure preferred.

Full‑Time, 40 Hours per week

Compensation

$120,000 – $150,000, based on experience.
