Construction Inspector – Full‑Time – Antioch, California (also San Francisco, San Jose)

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full‑Time Construction Inspector with our PMCM Team. You will be part of a growing organization that meets client objectives and solves challenges across multiple project types.

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret project plans and specifications
  • Monitor construction for compliance with project documents
  • Measure, calculate, and document quantities of installed materials in accordance with client policies and procedures
  • Inspect road and bridge construction (based on Caltrans Standards)
  • Review, inspect, and approve traffic control systems, including lane closures, in accordance with Caltrans’ standards and requirements
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant post‑education experience in discipline with prior construction inspection experience.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Highly familiar with construction inspection principles, field inspection practices, process, methods and techniques.
  • Grouting Inspector:
    American Segmental Bridge Institute (ASBI) Grouting Technician Certification.
  • Highly familiar with relevant construction codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non‑technical audience.
  • Sound self‑leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi‑tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, and comply with company policies.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Analytical mindset to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Ability to provide input and feedback to others in the field such as subcontractors and work colleagues to consistently complete tasks safely, efficiently, and accurately according to specifications.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in closely related discipline.
  • Two (2) years of education equivalent to completion of a curriculum beyond the 12th grade in either (1) engineering which includes courses in trigonometry and algebra or higher, drafting, computer science, and physics, chemistry, or a comparable physical science; or (2) surveying which includes courses in trigonometry and algebra or higher, drafting, surveying, and computer science.
  • Essential professional licensure/certification.

Compensation

Expected salary: $65/hour – $85/hour, depending on experience level, location and other qualifications. The employee’s hourly rate may increase if/when they perform services that are covered by California's Prevailing Wage laws on public sector projects, or are covered by other applicable wage and hour laws.
