Overview

Are you responsible and reliable? Then you should consider joining our team as a Seasonal Summer Recreation Program Instructor. In this role, you will have the opportunity to direct and lead a variety of recreation activities - focusing on leisure, learning, and having fun.
SupplementalInformation
- New employees receive $16.50 an hour, returning receive $17.50 an hour
- Scheduled work hours are Monday - Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (subject to change depending on number of program registrants), occasional weekends (Splash Pad pop-ups, Tanners Park building open/close, Summerfest). Locations are various Oakdale parks
- Employment dates are June 3, 2026 (required training day) through mid-August with programs beginning the week of June 8
- Posted rate is the starting hourly rate; experienced candidates may be eligible for higher hourly compensation
- Applications will be accepted until all positions are filled
- Interviews will be scheduled as applications are received
In light of the work with minors, applicants are subject to a comprehensive BCA background check including fingerprinting.
Responsibilities- You will work as a team member to plan and implement weekly age-appropriate youth activities
- You will provide weekly lesson plans, schedules, forms, and other requested information to the Recreation Superintendent
- You will work cooperatively with other recreation instructors
- You will be an advocate of the city's leisure recreation activities
- You will ensure a safe environment for all participants
- have positive leadership qualities, creativity, self-initiative, a cooperative nature, and are reliable and friendly
- can effectively communicate, lead and relate to participants
- are mature and responsible and able to work effectively with others
- are sensitive to the interpersonal needs and relationships of participants
- are energetic, enthusiastic, respectful, reliable, and fulfill the needs of the program throughout the season
- are at least 16 years old by the time programming starts
- have some education/experience, skill, ability and knowledge in various activities, such as crafts, games, sports, cooking, etc.
