Position SummaryThe Demand Planning Analyst is responsible for analyzing historical sales, trends, promotions, seasonality, and market signals to develop accurate demand forecasts. This role supports the company’s Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning (SIOP) process and contributes to achieving service level targets, reducing excess inventory, and improving inventory turns across a complex, multi-echelon supply chain. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and adept at translating data into actionable inventory and procurement strategies.
Responsibilities- Analyze historical sales, customer demand, promotional activity, and external trends to build item-level forecasts across national and regional branch networks.
- Maintain and continuously improve forecast accuracy metrics (e.g., MAPE, bias) by SKU, category, and region.
- Collaborate with Inventory Planning, Procurement, and Category Management to align forecasts with stocking strategies and vendor MOQs.
- Support monthly SIOP meetings with forecast variance reporting, product lifecycle updates, and insights on forecast drivers.
- Leverage planning tools and BI platforms (e.g., DRP, Excel, SQL, Power BI) to visualize trends and track forecast performance.
- Incorporate input from Sales and Category teams on upcoming promotions, new product introductions (NPIs), and regional shifts in demand.
- Flag exceptions such as chronic under-forecasting, overstock risk, and demand anomalies; recommend corrective actions.
- Partner with IT and Analytics to refine demand models and enhance system-generated forecasts using machine learning or historical regression techniques.
- Support inventory conversion planning for product transitions, branch rollouts, and network optimization initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Analytics, Finance, or related field; APICS/IBF certification is a plus
- 2+ years of experience in demand planning, forecasting, or inventory analytics within distribution or retail
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, formulas), SQL, and data visualization tools (Power BI or Tableau)
- Experience with demand planning or ERP systems such as PTC Servigistics, JD Edwards, SAP, or similar
- Knowledge of SIOP or IBP process preferred
- Ability to communicate insights clearly and collaborate across cross-functional teams
- Detail-oriented with a continuous improvement mindset
- Experience with aftermarket auto parts, high-SKU environments, or regional demand segmentation
- Understanding of lead time variability, vendor constraints, and their impact on inventory positioning
- Ability to manage large datasets and draw insights from complex supply chain scenarios
