General PurposeArea Supervisors are members of Store Leadership responsible for a specific area of the store and serve as Manager on Duty, overseeing opening and closing, supervising associates, maintaining a friendly retail environment, ensuring merchandise presentation, and executing operational processes.
Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments- Practice safety as the number one priority.
- Maintain high awareness on the sales floor and correct or report unsafe conditions or practices.
- Manage building security including entrance/exit control, EAS devices daily checks, cash office security, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area security.
- Remove clutter and ensure clear egress to emergency exits.
- Ensure customer safety through accident prevention, reporting, and emergency procedures.
- Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
- Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
- Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
- Recognize associates using company recognition programs.
- Represent and support the company brand at all times.
- Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the company dress code; ensure associates adhere to this code.
- Keep all areas of the store clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
- Be responsible for daily trash removal.
- Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to company standards through education, task assignment, and follow‑up.
- Responsible for receiving merchandise trucks when needed.
- Process all merchandise with a sense of urgency.
- Handle receipt of all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.
- Assist in placing merchandise on the sales floor after processing.
- Ensure back‑stock is secured and processed per company policy.
- Handle merchandising of departments, including back stock.
- Reduce loss due to damage.
- Ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in the assigned area.
- Manage floor moves and signs, including promotional signing.
- Perform re‑wraps as needed.
- Comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program, maintaining a strong customer service presence on the sales floor.
- Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions; safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card information, and merchandise.
- Maintain Public View Monitor (PVM) system properly.
- Conduct Code 50 package inspections.
- Execute all company best practices, maximizing productivity by minimizing steps and touches.
- Execute company best practices, minimizing unnecessary steps; ensure associates meet front‑end standards.
- Maintain pace, energy, and presence at the front end, managing lines to expedite customer wait time.
- Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other front end procedures.
- Control retail associates’ break schedules, backups, lunches, and breaks.
- Ensure all equipment works properly.
- Maintain supplies and recovery for the front end.
- Ensure go‑backs are expedited, properly scanned, security‑tagged, and ticketed.
- Teach associates the “Scan and Bag” best practice.
- Ensure salability of merchandise on the front end, aisle tables, men’s/women’s four‑way features, and specialty racks.
- Maintain and clean fitting rooms.
- Audit and account for all fitting room garment tags per company policy.
- Ensure go‑back compliance throughout the day, ticketing, scanning, nubbling, and security‑tagging of returned merchandise.
- Ensure cash pulls and bank deposits are conducted per company policy.
