Oncology Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner (Outpatient, Inpatient Support)
Schedule: Four 10‑hour shifts per week + 4 weekend call rotations per year (rounding on Saturday & Sunday)
Hours: 7am-5pm

Position SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Oncology Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join a high‑volume hematology/oncology practice providing patient care across both outpatient and inpatient settings. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will manage a diverse oncology population, support chemotherapy treatment processes, respond to acute oncologic issues, and collaborate closely with supervising physicians and multidisciplinary teams.
This role requires strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment with medically complex patients.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Care & Patient Management
- Triage incoming calls from patients, hospitals, home health agencies, and hospice providers; determine appropriate interventions and consult supervising physicians as needed.
- Manage acute oncology concerns including oncologic emergencies, chemotherapy‑related side effects, and symptom escalations.
- Perform comprehensive histories, physical exams, diagnostic evaluations, and treatment plans for inpatient and outpatient oncology patients.
- Adjust plans of care in collaboration with attending physicians and specialty teams.
- Identify socioeconomic, cultural, environmental, and personal factors impacting treatment; coordinate with social work, nurse navigators, and support services.
- Provide routine follow‑up care and ongoing management for hematology/oncology patients.
- Refer patients to specialists when necessary based on scope of practice and clinical findings.
Patient & Staff Education
- Deliver chemotherapy education to patients and families prior to treatment.
- Provide clinical support and education to office and clinical staff.
- Assist with chemotherapy preparation, administration, and supervision as required.
- Support minor office‑based procedures as needed.
Inpatient & Care Coordination Support
- Participate in hospital rounds; provide first‑call coverage for inpatient oncology services.
- Collaborate with supervising physicians to develop and refine clinical protocols.
- Serve as primary point of contact for hospitalized oncology patients when assigned.
Documentation, Compliance & Quality
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of assessments, histories, and plans of care.
- Monitor clinical records for accuracy and completeness.
- Participate in policy and procedure review, quality improvement initiatives, and multidisciplinary committees.
- Act as first responder to infusion‑center reactions and emergencies.
- Maintain compliance with organizational, safety, and regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- PA‑C or Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP, FNP, or Oncology NP) with active state licensure.
- Oncology experience required (minimum 1 year for sign‑on bonus eligibility).
- Experience in hematology/oncology, chemotherapy management, or hospital‑based oncology preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment, triage, and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to work independently in a collaborative physician‑supervised model.
- EMR proficiency and excellent communication skills.
