What You'll Do- Perform dual role Occupational Health/Safety and Industrial Hygiene job specialties.
- Protect the workforce, public, and environment by anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, communicating, and controlling safety and health stressors that may cause injury, illness, or impairment, or negatively impact worker well‑being.
- Provide technical safety and IH support to all line management levels; conduct routine safety and IH oversight for operations, maintenance, construction, and other activities.
- Conduct workplace inspections and programmatic assessments.
- Conduct safety and IH audits and surveillances of nuclear and non‑nuclear facilities.
- Develop, document, and oversee hazard analysis and control processes for operations, maintenance, construction, and other activities.
- Assist with execution of Y‑12 safety and IH improvement initiatives.
- Analyze safety and IH data and statistics and recommend improvements.
- Conduct accident, injury, illness, and property damage incident investigations to identify causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist Y‑12 Occupational Health Services with injury and illness follow‑up investigations; participate in job hazard analysis, control identification, work oversight, and feedback.
- Make recommendations for selection and use of engineering, work‑practice/administrative, and PPE controls based on recognized principles and CNS policies.
- Review work plans, procedures, and technical requirements to ensure proper integration of safety and IH standards, policies, and procedures.
- Provide safety and IH consultation, reviews, interpretation, and interface with management and employees to resolve concerns.
- Serve as subject‑matter expert for maintenance of program assignments and/or job tasks.
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and make decisions within established procedures and best practices.
- Evaluate quantitative and qualitative surveys, sampling, and monitoring methods for assessing workplace conditions to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and site policies.
- Review and interpret survey and monitoring data and provide technical guidance for hazard analysis and control establishment.
- Demonstrate mathematics skills for routine and complex safety and IH calculations.
- Show thorough knowledge of DOE worker safety and health requirements, OSHA, and consensus safety and health standards.
- Prepare complete, accurate, concise reports in a timely manner.
- Balance multiple tasks to accomplish routine assignments and support special initiatives; work under general supervision but exercise independence in problem solving.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree:
Minimum 4 years of relevant experience. Safety and/or industrial hygiene field experience in industrial operations, maintenance, and/or construction commensurate with career level. - OR Master’s degree:
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience. - OR Twelve or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years‑of‑experience requirements.
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years‑job related and at least 1‑year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in safety, industrial hygiene, or related science or engineering discipline; advanced degree a plus.
- Prior work experience at a U.S. Department of Energy nuclear facility.
