Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS) is actively seeking Engineering, Professional, Technical, and administrative support personnel as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. Successful candidates will be employed by AIS, a premier government contractor that advances Y-12’s core mission to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrent.
Qualified applicants must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre‑employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.
ResponsibilitiesReliability Engineer (RE) provides a strategic support interface between Production, Engineering, Projects, and the Maintenance Organizations by providing recommendations and technical expertise to enhance equipment design, reliability, and maintainability. The RE has a critical role in optimizing asset management processes through proactive maintenance strategies.
- Defines and provides implementation support for recommendations that ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls, and safety/security systems.
- Provides reliability‑based technical support to Production, Operations, Infrastructure Management, and Craft personnel.
- Gathers, reviews, and analyzes data concerning facility or equipment reliability, availability, maintainability, and inspectability (RAMI) specifications.
- Reviews technical documents that depict or define reliability, accessibility, maintainability or inspectability features of systems, equipment and facilities, including technical basis documentation, manuals and datasheets.
- Leads integration of project and plant RAMI deliverables.
- Develops proactive maintenance strategies for structures, systems and components.
- Conducts equipment failure mode identification and root‑cause failure analysis.
- Performs trend analysis of structures, systems, and components.
- Defines, develops, implements, revises, and monitors Asset Management Plans for structures, systems and components.
- Deploys condition‑based, predictive and other non‑destructive testing methodologies to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems before failure.
- Completes and presents RAMI and Reliability‑Centered Maintenance analyses to internal and external engineering partners, including labor distributions, critical spares identification, proactive asset management plans, failure rates, MTBF, MTTR and life‑cycle cost analysis.
- Supports Staff Augmentation peer review to meet the increased mission needs of the Personnel Development and Peer Review NCS Engineering group.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physical science from an ABET‑accredited program.
- Must meet DOE O 426.2 requirements for a baccalaureate in engineering or related science.
- 5+ years of job‑related experience, including 1 year of nuclear experience or DOE‑approved alternative experience; DOE 426.2 can be satisfied after employment.
- Able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.

- BS in engineering or physical science with 5+ years of Reliability Engineering experience, or master’s degree with 2+ years of relevant experience.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, capable of multitasking in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance.
- Position requires a clearance from the Department of Energy and is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position, involving ongoing random drug testing in addition to the pre‑employment drug screen.
- Pre‑employment drug screen: external applicants must successfully complete a post‑offer, pre‑employment drug test.
- Medical examinations: job‑related pre‑placement medical examinations may be required.
