Mission Technologies, a division of HII, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support operations within the Directed Energy business unit. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, and integration of advanced mechanical systems that support high‑energy laser and microwave technologies. Your responsibilities will include designing and analyzing structural components, thermal management systems, and precision assemblies critical to directed‑energy platforms.

You will also support fabrication, testing, and validation efforts to ensure systems meet stringent performance, reliability, and safety requirements.

What you will do
  • Translate requirements into polished 2D and 3D designs.
  • Track and drive tasks through to completion.
  • Communicate status with clarity and brevity to internal and external customers.
  • Identify, articulate, and manage risks.
  • Manage internal and external relationships.
  • Create and maintain various reports.
What we are looking for (minimum requirements)
  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; or 3 years experience with Masters or PhD in a related field.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Self‑motivated with strong work ethic.
  • Ability to think critically and problem solve in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to translate requirements into tasks and completed designs.
  • Ability to perform fundamental analysis working from first principals.
  • Experience with Solid Works CAD tools. 2D and 3D.
  • Experience in creating DFMEA.
  • Hands on prototyping experience.
  • Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Experience with fabrication and methods of manufacture.
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret security clearance.
  • Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with FEA and CFD analysis.
  • Experience with MATLAB and/or ANSYS.
