Position Overview

As a Structural Design Engineer, you will be part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the construction process by performing innovative design engineering. Responsibilities include brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and reviewing structural calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, and mitigating risk to keep construction crews safe. Depending on the project load, you may support in multiple capacities including estimating and production environments.

Location

The position is located in Lenexa, KS. Other locations may be considered.

Responsibilities
  • Perform intermediate calculations under the supervision of a senior engineer and solve problems using well‑established scientific principles.
  • Analyze data and understand relationships and correlations.
  • Draw conclusions and present findings to senior leadership.
  • Proactively learn new information and skills.
  • Analyze structures using structural engineering software; design buildings, foundations, equipment platforms, pipe racks, and miscellaneous concrete and steel structures.
  • Prepare quantities, cost estimates, and supporting documentation for projects.
  • Initiate development of personal objectives aligned with organizational goals.
  • Seek and use feedback effectively.
  • Provide input to improve design quality.
  • Utilize codes and standards to complete assignments.
  • Identify internal and external customers.
  • Handle various assignments, including rework, in a timely manner to meet schedule deadlines.
  • Perform work efficiently to maximize productivity.
  • Perform quality checks of design in a team environment to ensure accuracy.
  • Carry out assignments carefully while focusing on details.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis) or Architectural Engineering.
  • 2‑4 years of relevant experience in Nuclear, Power Generation, or Industrial (preferred; other experience considered).
  • Travel required.
  • Receives limited instruction on routine work and detailed instruction on new assignment from a more experienced engineer.
  • Adapt to varying demands of work and perform well.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing; present ideas clearly and professionally.
  • Knowledgeable in engineering software such as STAAD Pro, SAP
    2000, SAFE, RISA, spMats, and Mathcad.
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
  • Familiar with national design codes such as IBC, ASCE, ACI, and AISC.
  • Participate effectively on teams; accept direction from the team and contribute individually.
  • Support project teams and departments positively and productively; work well with others to accomplish common goals.
  • Serve as point of contact for external or internal customers.
  • Follow through on commitments to internal and external customers.
  • Manage multiple responsibilities with set expectations and meet deadlines.
  • Embrace flexibility and understand that engineering design is a progression of multiple iterations.
