About

The Role

The Teacher Assistant position supports student learning by providing support to the student(s) and teacher in the classroom. Key responsibilities include supervision of students, implementation of prescribed programs, maintenance of records, and use of instructional tools to support the educational program.

As a key member of the district’s teacher assistant team, the teacher assistant will interact with students, staff, parents/guardians, and community members and will demonstrate alignment with the district’s equity commitments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Instructional and Academic Support: Provide academic and instructional support to students individually, in small groups, or in full classroom settings; support core subjects; assist in implementing instructional modifications and interventions; prepare instructional materials and technology; collect data and chart student progress.
  • Student Supervision and Behavioral Support: Supervise students during arrival, departure, lunch, recess, and other non-instructional times; guide acquisition of social skills; implement behavioral management systems; provide positive reinforcement; redirect inappropriate behaviors; maintain a safe, respectful, and peaceful environment.

    Collaboration:

    Maintain a positive, professional, respectful atmosphere; demonstrate ethical behavior and confidentiality; collaborate with teachers and team members to create schedules and support plans; communicate with parents only as directed; participate in professional development; utilize time effectively and follow communication procedures.

Candidate Qualifications
  • Illinois Paraprofessional License (required).
  • Associate’s Degree (preferred).
  • Illinois Professional Educator License.
  • Illinois Substitute Teacher License.
