Base pay range
$40.30/hr - $60.45/hr
Major Responsibilities- Coordinate and implement strategies to ensure quality, efficacy, and cost effectiveness for oncology patients in multiple settings.
- Assess patient needs and orientate them to the hospital, outpatient settings, and the organization.
- Deliver cancer care across the continuum, from diagnosis through treatment, and implement transition to survivorship and end‑of‑life care.
- Use the nursing process to provide patient and family insight with appropriate education and resources, facilitating informed decision‑making and timely access to quality health and psychosocial care throughout all phases of the cancer continuum.
- Critically think and clinically assess patients, providing support and education; manage the complexity of cancer diagnosis.
- Communicate and collaborate with all multidisciplinary team members, including treating physicians.
- Review distress screening for referrals and partner with physicians.
- Receive and respond to new patient referrals; reinforce education regarding diagnosis; connect patients to appropriate and requested resources.
- Develop and report outcome metrics to drive program development; assess and implement activities that support Children’s Oncology Group (COG) standards; strategize activities supporting the community needs assessment of site‑specific results.
- Provide emotional support for patients, advocate on their behalf, empower self‑advocacy, and maintain own knowledge, skills, and competencies.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license (current Illinois RN license).
- BSN required; effective 10/1/16.
- OCN or Nurse Navigator certification within 2 years of hire.
- Global perspective of the changing health care environment.
- Ability to prioritize work and respond to multiple simultaneous requests.
- Basic computer skills.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills.
- CPR certification.
- Experience caring for pediatric oncology patients (knowledge of Children's Oncology Group standards).
- Flexible hours according to customer needs.
- Commitment to patient‑focused care.
- Operate in a fast‑paced environment with established time constraints and difficult situations.
- May be exposed to hazardous materials and life‑threatening diseases.
- Perform lifting/transfer activities related to patients (up to 50 lbs.; may be required).
- Travel to visit physicians and other practices within the region.
- Lift patients up to 35 lbs. without assistance; equipment to be used for lifts over 35 lbs. or when patients cannot assist.
