Base pay range

$37.50/hr - $56.25/hr

Responsibilities
  • Positioning and immobilization of patient to ensure anatomy or blood vessels being examined are in the correct profile and projection. Independent selection of technical factors to ensure high quality images with the lowest possible dose to the patient.
  • Participates in and assists in complex interventional procedures such as de-clotting of blood vessels, UFE, venous ablations and other peripheral vascular procedures. These procedures require advanced knowledge of vascular anatomy.
  • Performs procedures with Interventional Radiologists, vascular surgeons, neuro radiologists, neurosurgeons, and other specialists.
  • Positions patient in proper positions to radiographically demonstrate correct anatomy.
  • Obtains radiographic DSA and DA images for interventional procedures and transmits all images to PACS for interpretation by the radiologist.
  • Participates in and assists in the performance of complex interventional endovascular neurological procedures (e.g., aneurysm coiling, stent placement, and other stroke intervention procedures).
  • Sets up patient on appropriate cardiac and other monitoring systems and interprets normal ranges on monitoring equipment.
  • Prepares patient in a sterile fashion for procedures and maintains radiographic equipment and examination rooms for efficiency.
  • Prepares examination rooms for smooth performance of procedures, including equipment and supplies.
  • Assists the radiologist during angiograms and special procedures, including insertion of arterial needles and catheters.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment and uses Universal Precautions in daily performance of procedures.
  • Explains examinations to patients and families; rounds on patients to keep them informed of procedure progress.
  • Manages the timely flow of patients in Interventional Radiology by assisting with patient care and transportation as required.
  • Promotes patient safety by reporting issues and participating in safety initiatives.
  • Maintains positive customer relations and participates in team problem-solving to improve patient care, department operations, image quality, and staff satisfaction.
  • Assists with procurement of supplies and equipment for the department; provides information about patient history and prior examinations to inform care.
  • Responds to emergency calls and restraints; available to respond within 45 minutes of the call.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and records pertinent patient information for accurate procedure charging.
  • Delivers patient care in accordance with department standards and continual quality improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and professional demeanor with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Supports leadership by participating in department or hospital committees and continuing education; may provide instruction to students and evaluate performance.
  • Identifies problems and takes steps toward resolution; provides instruction and direction to technologists in related duties.
  • Maintains professional schedule and demonstrates self-direction in learning and development.
Education/Experience Required
  • Must have attended an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology and be ARRT registered.
  • Ability to recognize the needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients and treat all customers with age-specific appropriateness.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Ability to perform most interventional radiology procedures usually performed in specials lab with supervision; demonstrates ability to use various radiographic equipment to obtain high-quality images and good teamwork and communication.
  • ARRT registered.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Exposed to radiation.
  • Ability to deal with extremely ill patients and to communicate with patients.
  • Ability to work long hours, have flexible work hours, and participate in on-call programs with minimal notice.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance; for patient lifts over 35 pounds, use patient handling equipment with at least one other associate when available. Case-by-case assessments for unique situations.
  • Ability to stand for long periods while wearing a lead apron (about 20 lbs).
  • Ability to make independent professional decisions using good judgement; provide high-quality patient care and maintain technical competence.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment with physicians and nurses.
