Overview
This Ulrasound technologist role involves accurate patient positioning, optimal technical factor selection, and the use of immobilization techniques to obtain high-quality scans. The position also includes patient care, room preparation, documentation, and collaboration with radiologists to ensure optimal study outcomes.
Responsibilities- Position patients and select technical factors and equipment to obtain scans of optimal quality, using immobilization techniques as needed
- Position, transfer and immobilize patients for procedures to ensure high-quality exams
- Operate portable ultrasound equipment for bedside/portable procedures as required
- Assist physicians by recommending technical factor selections to obtain optimal studies
- Deliver patient care in accordance with department standards of quality improvement
- Maintain a timely flow of patients in rooms or work areas
- Treat all patients and customers with respect and compassion
- Transport patients when indicated to meet needs
- Prepare ultrasound rooms ensuring necessary supplies and equipment are available
- Provide an environment conducive to patient privacy and maintain patient confidentiality
- Follow in-and-out patient identification policy
- Document department records (e.g., inventories and patient statistics) to ensure adequate supplies and proper records
- Maintain correct patient records and assemble daily patient schedules and folders
- Prepare ultrasound rooms with necessary equipment and supplies before procedures
- Know and operate Hospital Information Computer Systems as required
- Obtain pertinent patient history to inform radiologists before interpretation
- Work closely with radiologists to ensure optimal outcomes for procedures
- Maintain positive guest relations with patients, staff, and colleagues
- Comply with accrediting and safety standards to protect patients and staff
- Maintain CPR certification
- Operate equipment safely per hospital and department policies
- Follow standard precautions and protect against exposure to bodily fluids
- Adhere to disaster, fire, and evacuation policies
- Participate in safety initiatives and mandatory training
- ARDMS Registry eligible; registry to be completed within the first year of employment
- High technical knowledge to perform specialized ultrasound studies with minimal radiologist assistance
- Ability to make diagnostic judgments and present them to the radiologist for interpretation
- CPR certification
- Ability to work flexible hours, including on-call, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform lifting as required
- Ability to operate portable equipment and handle potentially ill patients
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance for patient handling
- Potential exposure to radiation and hazardous chemicals; ability to participate in out-of-town site visits as needed
