Building Principal and Program Supervisor for Special Education

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability, physical demands and working conditions required of this position.

  • Demonstrate support for the Mission, Vision, and Goals of the Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123
  • Uphold the established Board of Education policies, regulations, and administrative procedures
  • Actively participate as a member of the special education team in evaluating students and determining disabilities when case studies are necessary
  • Communicate and cooperate with colleagues, students, parents, and the community as needed to meet professional standards
  • Participate in evaluation and annual review conferences
  • Provide appropriate preventative and therapeutic services to students in the form of:
    • Crisis intervention to general and special education students
    • Ongoing groups or individual work in fulfillment of the IEP
    • Consultation with parents and teachers
    • Weekly individual or group counseling sessions with general education population
    • Implement restorative practices such as peer mediation, when needed
    • Liaison between community and school
    • Transition/reintegration (safety) plans for students returning to school
    • Participate in behavior screenings
    • Provide intervention supports for students on incentive plans
    • Perform risk assessments as necessary
    • Write Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans as part of a team
  • Participate in problem solving meetings
  • Maintain accurate records (students’ performance data, clerical responsibilities, Medicade billing, etc.) for the purpose of documenting accurate student information, reports, and Medicare reimbursement
  • Evaluate students on a regular basis and provide reports as required
  • Create a nurturing environment that is conducive to social learning and is age appropriate
  • Provide outreach services to students and families in the form of home intervention, phone calls, and referral to appropriate agencies when necessary
  • Participate in meetings and perform other responsibilities as assigned by the principal or designee in accordance with the contract and Board of Education
  • Utilize technology to promote learning, creativity, collaboration
  • Ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job

Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Building Principal or designee in accordance with the Board of Education’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
