Position: Elementary School Physical Education Teacher (Grades 1-4)

Reports To: Principal

Job Description: The educator teaches children about the importance of physical activity and good nutrition, encouraging play and cooperation.

Requirements: Must have valid Illinois PEL with PE Endorsement

Essential Functions:

• Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual, dual, or team sports to primary students

• Instructs students in

• Works cooperatively with administration and staff in planning a balanced physical education program, adapting daily schedules to accommodate weather conditions and providing time for transitions

• Utilizes a variety of instructional skills and methods; varies instructional modes to accommodate student needs, interests, learning styles, and ability levels; provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students

• Maintains school standards of pupil behavior required to provide an orderly and productive environment, in cooperation with the school administration

• Exhibits appropriate conduct in the handling of student emergencies

• Selects and recommends requisitions for equipment and instructional supplies; instructs students in proper care and use of materials and equipment; organizes storage areas and controls use of materials and equipment to prevent loss or abuse

• Explicitly teaches safe use of equipment and performs safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the over-all safety of students

• Assesses each student's progress in physical fitness skills and knowledge; prepares, documents, and communicates progress to students, parents, and school

• administration

• Performs basic student attendance accounting and maintains and submits upon request accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations

• Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants, or other paraprofessionals when appropriate

• Attends and participates in staff meetings and district meetings as assigned

• Other duties as assigned by principal

Minimum Expectations:

• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written

• Flexibility, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills

• Strong interpersonal skills; communicates successfully with diverse populations (virtually or in-person)

• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and collaborate with colleagues and coaches

• Knowledge of district policies on immunization, medication, first aid, emergencies, and child abuse/neglect

• Knowledge of all laws, regulations and guidelines affecting teachers and students

• Ability to maintain positive relationships with students, parents, community members and staff

Salary:
Based on placement schedule per the negotiated certified staff contract: PROFESSIONAL NEGOTIATIONS AGREEMENT

Term:
Position is full time, 7 hours/day, 180 days per school year
